I use the NBT's for everything. Anywhere from 50yds to 500yds,..I'm using them. The western game (I just got back from WY) will go down quickly with a well placed 140nbt from your rifle. Take that load with you and don't look back.

Balistic tips work well at impact velocities Of 2800 fps or below so in your weatherby mag you may have some close range failures but at longer ranges where the velocity have dropped to 2800 fps they will work very well on the game you are after. I used 140 balistic tips in my 7mm-08 with great results on pigs out to 250 yards or so but had many failures using the same bullet in the 7mm rem mag out to 250 yards but they worked very well over that range. I could not understand what was happening untill I fired spme bullets from both rifles into some dead pigs at various ranges & realized that the bullets from the 7mm mag were just going too fast at short range & virtually exploding before penetrating far(especially if bone was hit). I think thats why balistic Tips have a bad rep in some quarters because people try & push them too fast outside what they are designed to do. To sum Up I think you may have some trouble with the 140 balistic tips from the weatherby mag at short range but at long range they will work extremely well.

I too own a .270 Weatherby Magnum and while the choice of Nosler is a good one go with the Partition. You dont want to use the Ballistic Tips in rifles delivering over 2,900 fps. at the muzzle. Not if you aim to eat very much. Save the Ballistic Tips for target work. Lawdog
