Hi All I have this 270weatherby mag with 22inch barrel. Today i was testing it at 400meters and it shot one 2.3inch group and another 2.8inch both 5 shots. I was going to get another barrel(longer) should i? The other prob is the ammo doing it is someone elses reloads all i know is they are 130grain projectiles powder 67grains but dont know the brand?still have 180 reloads to shoot. Cheers Steve

If the figures you state are true don't touch a thing. that is a fantastic barrel and I would be affraid to get a worse one in the swap. Congrats on a fine shooting gun. What does it print at 100 meters and 200 meters?

Steve I agree with Dave, do not touch a thing. Do not "fix what ain't broke". PS. Clean that excellent barrel very gently.

Try like mentioned above-100-200 meters and youre group size. Try and find the name of the powder. I've loaded plenty with great accuracy .50 of an in with 130's and .75 with 140's. Sounds like it might be 4350 that they used. But there are plenty of powders to give you the same accuracy. But 40-60fps slower at most with that shorter barrel and shots like that are not bad at all. I have my Dad's -06 until last year I honestly did not know it had a 22 in barrel. All the long distance shots and animals from that gun and still gets 1-1/8in groups today with 150gr hornady sp.

Longer barrels do add some stability for the shooter, but shorter barrels tend to be more accurate. Fred Smith at Bullberry recommends short and fat barrels for accuracy, and I see no reason to argue with him. If your getting that kind of accuracy out of your rifle, don't mess with it.
