i don't normally shoot factory ammo but sometimes for a gun just passing thru or one i have "just because" and don't shoot much i will. am curious abt general opinions of the quality of black hills ammo. what few gun magazines i read, it seems to be used in testing quite a lot so i assume it isn't junk.

I've used a few of their 50 rd boxes of 223 Remington from time to time (on account of laziness, truth be told) with no complaints.

EekerThe blue boxed ammo shoots better in my .223 than the Red box which is Match? Yesterday the Savage shot a 10 round 3/4" grp at 50 yds. with a Blue box loading.I was useing it to foul the barrel. beer

The blue box is reloaded ammo. The red box is new ly manufactured ammo. I've used their match loads when I was in a pinch in both red and blue box and can't tell the difference.
I've also used some of the re-manufactured .223 77 gr. HPBT match ammo with superb results in an AR.

I'm not far from the Black Hills Ammo facility and I know Jeff Hoffman very well. In fact, we teach classes together. I have shot more Black Hills ammo than I can count and it is absolutely top quality. They also stand behind their product should you be dissatisfied.
And, several branches of the US Military have contracts for specialized ammunition that apparently performs above specifications (there was an artical recently about it in one of the magazines).

You can't go wrong with Black Hills ammo! Smiler

The use a lot of Ramshot (Western Powder Co.). That stuff is ball powder made in Belgium. That is for the rifle loads. I can't speak to their pistol powders.

The use Winchester brass (usually).

Jeff's "secret" is a very rigorous internal QC program.

I have shot some of their stuff loaded to NATO pressures. It works fine, but I like the SAAMI pressure loads better.

Their 175 gr. match loads shoot under 1/2 m.o.a. in my .308.
