| I've tried necking down 35whelen & necking up 06. The only thing when using Whelen brass is you may have to trim to length after sizing, they do stretch a bit. Accuracy in my rifle shows no real preference for 06, Whelen or Norma 338-06 brass. Sized to fit & loaded w/ a decent bullet, it's a heck of a game getter.

| I have never lost a case necking .35 Whelen to .338-06. I have had no problem with thick necks, excessive trimming, etc. Just run them through the die, check the length and load them up. It is a great hunting caliber.

| I used ww '06 brass in mine....no nothing, bump up, load, and 1/2moa ALL day, any day, would not do it any other way if I had another. BTW, add, IMR 4320 powder of MY rifles choice for accuracy/speed. |

Do you use 2 set FL dies like Redding or RCBS? |

| I use Redding dies which came with my rifle when I bought it. I splurged and paid a whopping $1 per case for 100 rounds properly head stamped Norma Brass. It has gone up in value a little bit but still worth the money IMO. |

| Neck UP 30-06 brass to 35 Whalen then neck down (crush fit) to .338-06-------no thick necks and correct headspace !!!!
Hipshot
P.S. an oliptical(sp) expander button (Hornady) works best when necking up----use MICA in the case neck applied with a Q Tip. |

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear If you are planning on pushing to extreme pressures in the 338-06 you would be much better off and much safer with a .338 Win mag. I will out perform the 338-06 with max loads and can be loaded down to equal the 338-06. Plus you can find .338 Win mag brass pretty easy. |

The Norma/Wby brass is good but it only lasts longer, not giving you add'l. room to increase pressures.

| I have two .338-06's and a .338 WM. There is approximately 100-150 fps difference between the two. Both are great big game calibers, and I have my doubts anything can tell the difference.

| I just neck up 30/06 brass.... I also own several 338 Mags... but they show no field superiority over the 338/06... regardless of bullet weight from 200 to 275 grains...
