The Speer manual shows a 338 Federal 200 grain bullet at approx. 2,700 fps using primarily Alliant powders. Has anyone actually achieved this velocity? Thanks.

Well, who knows and more important who cares.

The 338/08 is not about velocity. Just load the bullet you like with the powder you have and what velocity it does it not a consideration.

Mike is pretty much right. Unless it's your only rifle and want to shoot long range, the vel is not a big deal.
I have a .338 Fed, loaded it up and down the range. I load it down to 2200 fps with some old herters roundnose sofpoint. Killed deer very dead with a little less meat damage, which is what I was looking for.

Sorry you think my question was irrelevant. I am still curious as to velocities achieved - Speer's velocities appear to put the 338 Fed in a new league.

Certainly not irrelevant.
My 338 Fed is in a Kimber so I don't push it like I might a more heavy action/rifle.
New powders fill in spots so it wouldn't surprise me if the vel are high when loaded to top pressures.
Sorry I can't be of more help, just didn't find a need for pushing higher then the 2600 fps range I was at.

Look at the Speer data for the 35 whelen and 225’s. Cfe223 and power pro 2000. Speer is showing new powders and top pressure loads no doubt.
There is logic on it. These new powders just have pushed the smaller cased midsized cartridges beyond what we all had grown used to with old standby powders. It’s good to have someone do some testing and publish. We can work up as normal but with some sense we are on a new path that can yield new results.

I haven't looked at that loads data, but I have looked at others. The 338 federal is an interesting cartridge.
My sources list a top velocity with 200 gr bullets at a bit over 2500 fps
They list the 338-06 at 2700 fps. Maybe you saw the wrong data.

I've never achieved 2700 FPS with 200 grain loads. I did Chrony the 200 Fusions which used to be listed at 2700 FPS from a 24" barrel and they were 2660 in my 22" Hawkeye. I generally push 200s at 2600 and 180s at 2750. I know some people say they have achieved that. I would Google "Good 338 Federal Loads 24 hour campfire" if you want to see a ton of load information from other 338 Federal owners.
