I have had excellent results with the 180gr Accubond Nosler and the 200gr Hornady spitzers...

Really you don't need a fancy bullet in the 338-06 for deer...most anything coming out of the 338-06 will flatten a whitetail....with great authority...

miklor,

Are you planning to use the rifle for anything besides deer? If so, I'd pick a bullet that you and the rifle can agree on for the largest/toughest animal you want to hunt then use it for everything. I use 225 gr NPs in my .338-06 and find if very effective on critters from 80lbs to 700lbs.

I am just going to hunt whitetails. Been using 180gr. Ballistic tips but I am about to run out. Just want a soft enough bullet to open up on a deer.

A really good bullet for deer size game is the Speer 200gr or Hornady 200gr softs @ 2800fps. They open up great out to 400yds & just flatten smaller game like deer & antelope.

Well said. No more needed.

My wildcat is a little larger but I used the 180BT for deer and 210PT for elk and bigger. Now I use the 200accubond for both.

As usual just my $.02

Hornady now makes a 200 SST in 338 Caliber with a .455 BC. Seems about perfect for deer.

I'd use the 200 Accubond. I've taken Bull elk with it and it shoots great. It will flatten whitetails.

Another vote for the 200gr Hornady SP - very good performance on deer-size game, very accurate for me, and cheap to shoot and practice with too.

Shoot the Barnes copper 185 TSX. A 338 is going to punch an extreme wound channel in a deer if it isn't mono-metal.
