I've just started to regulate a JP Sauer 9.3x74R sxs rifle from 1912. Am using Woodleigh 286 grn softs and solids. Also selected IMR 4064 powder and CCI primers to start with. Am working up loads from 52.5 to 56.5 grns to check. I did shoot factory RWS 285 grn rounds just to check. Right barrel with dead center but left barrel with high and right. Anyone have any good advice or suggestions? Also, read in an article that rounds for doubles should be crimped to keep 2nd bullet from moving during recoil of first shot. Anyone have any experience with this?

Mark, I have some experience with crimping cartridges/bullets for my double rifle. I am shooting the 458 RCBS in a double, which duplicates the 458 Win Magnum, in a rimmed (straight) case. I was getting bullet jump in the unfired barrel after a shot. You can adjust the crimp on the seating die of course, but I found it to be a bit of a pain. I had Lee (as in Lee reloading equipment) make me a custom "Factory Crimp Die", which cost about $25. It is easy to use and puts a perfect crimp on everytime. There are reloaders out there who hate the Factory Crimp Die for reasons I am unsure of. It tightened up groups in my double rifle, and added about 20 fps velocity. Garrett

My double rifle regulated better with IMR 4064 at the slower speeds found with 50-52 grains powder. your milage may vary. And I do find, that without crimping, the second barrel is ALWAYS faster than the first barrel, and this is the same if I shoot the R or L barrel first... I figured it was due to temperature and powder affects from recoil. I may just try crimping again... good luck.

Mark I have not tried 4064, but I have had very good results in my Chapuis 9,3 with IMR4831. I would start with 60grains. My rifle shoots good with 63grains and 65 grains. I load 65grains of IMR4831 with 286 Woodleigh softs, Nosler Partitions, and Hawk .035jkt. 285's, and all shoot close enough together that I use the same zero for all 3 bullets.
