Not sure where to put this post. I would like to use a Charles Daly action for a 9.3X62 project. Since I already have it. What are your thoughts on this action? Is it a good one? And yes I know there are better ones out there. Thanks In advance <>< Maddog

I believe these actions are made by Zastava, and are now being marketed as the Rem798. They are good commercial M98 actions. I've just bought a Zastava M70 in 308Win which will be a future donor action. I believe that the "short" rounds are housed in a standard length action with blocked magazine. The standard length action is perfect for the 9.3x62, and the M98 is a "better choice" then say a Rem700 stir.
Cheers...

The 30-06 length CD action is a good one for a 9.3 X 62 project. (there are shorter ones that will not suffice)

Are there better ones?.....well...that's simply a matter of opinion.....and we all have them.

IMO the Winchester M-70 is better and the MRC 1999 is better.

I also have some VZ-24s that are better. However in the end you'll like your CD (Zastava) project.

Have a ball and show some photos when you're done.

I had one CD rifle and hated it...I would find another action to build on....trigger on the CD was sloppy and bolt would bind when the action was worked fast....I think you can do better.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Are there nicer actions on the market? Sure! None at close to the price of a Daly. The trigger is adjustable. It can be made into a decent hunting trigger. You can always change it. I have never had one of my Daly or MKX actions bind. Not saying it can't happen just have never had it. But then I only have about 20 or 25. There is play in the bolt just like a normal surplus 98.

The 06 and 308 actions are the same. There is simply a box in the back of the magazine on the 308 and a shorter follower. It can be removed if you have a 308 and want to use an 06 based cased. Then pick up a use normal follower and you are ready to go.

As usual just my $.02

I used a Daly action for my 458 Win and have been very happy with it. It took a little grinding on the follower to make it feed perfectly, and a little adjustment on the trigger to smooth it up but almost any factory action will need something done to it. I feel they are a good value, you can spend more but it's not really necessary for a hunting rifle.

I ownn (2) left hand CD/Zastava mauser actions. IMHO, for the price they can't be beat. I was very pleased with the quality when mine arrived. I added teh Gentry 3 postion saety & am having teh magazine release modified & bolt handle changed. But those are purely cosmetic choices. The cations functoned fine as delivered.

The first one is being turned into a 35 whelen. The second one will is still being determined.....I am leaning to the 06, but may go 280 or 270.

Finding CD actions now that Remington bought out the ditributor rights can be tough. But they are solid actions & can be turned into nice rifles. I also love the fact that unlike many other actions today........they are all steel!
