I am trying to get a bit of information about the Remington .300 SAUM. From what I have read it aapears as if this round will fit an a Remington "short/308" action wheras the .300 WSM will not.

It also looks as if the Remington is the only one of the two that has a factory offering in match grade ammunition.

Does anyone have any experience with the Remington .300 SAUM.

I think Remington was late to the party, but there is lots of info at www.shortmags.org

For anyone considering the Remington short mag offerings, I ask you to remember one word,

"BETAMAX"

Thanks for the URL to shotmags.org ... This is a very informative site.

This is the only place that I could get the comparaitve information that I was looking for re: 300 WSM vs 300 SAUM.

It is very interesting that the 300 WSM is only about .85" of an inch longer than the 300 SAUM yet has a .04" shorter neck.

Betamax? Now we are aging ourselves.. I was wondering about the long term viability of "both" of these rounds since they seem to be nearly twins.

Longevity is a legit concern, but the WSM family sure is taking off, especially with the 270WSM.

If you reload, I feel pretty confident that component availability will exceed the life of your rifle barrel. Factory ammo is much more widely available for the WSM as well.

BTW, I love my 300WSM.....

Remington SAUM's will fit a model 7 action where the WSM will not that was their reasoning for bringing out a shorter version of the WSM. Good Friend has one in a custom 700 and it handily outshoots his custom 700 308 winchester. According to him it is not the least bit finnicky about what it digests either..he has been shooting a box of Speer 180 FB bullets I had sent him and I never got that kind of group size with same bullets out of a 300 WM.
