for a new toy... a remington 700 in either a 30-06, 300win or 300wby. Been going over the pros and cons of each, whats your thoughts? ______________________

I have a 300Wby. and a 30-06. My ought6 is a sporterized 1917 Winchester and I like it. The 300Wby is a weatherby Vanguard and it is a nice gun too. For hunting in Alabama, I think I would go with the 30-06. The situation the gun would be used in is what would be the determining factor for me though.

Ture, so I'll add that I've got a caribou/bear hunt planned for this fall in Newfoundland. Plus I'm looking at either a moose/bear hunt or mt. caribou hunt in 2008. Also am looking at a coues deer hunt in the next few years. Ain't much I don't want to hunt. ______________________

Well, having never hunted coues deer I can only say that they are supposedly hunted at some extended ranges, so I think I would give the 300Wby the nod. Also, I feel it can push heavier weight bullets faster so would be more useful in Alaskan bear country. I know I have ignored the 300 Winchester, but I haven't used it. Though its reputation is sterling.

Mark6,5x55, opinions are what we specialize in here; here's mine: 300WM in a stainless/synthetic package. Iron sights if possible, because Murphy is always along on big game hunts. 165gr for the Caribou, 200gr's for the bear & moose. Nosler Partitions all the way around. JMHO Rich DRSS

If ya kant do it with a 30-06 then you need a larger caliber.....simply stated! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." If you don't have any of them, get a 30-06. Everyone needs one of those. Or, if you've already got some rifles chambered in any of those calibers, just get whatever one you don't have. All of them are legends, just flip a 3 sided coin! _____________________________________________________ No safe queens!

The 300Winnie would be the way to go IMO. Good Luck Reloader

I got my 300 Wby Vangaurd for Hunting Coues Deer but it has served me well for many other hunts. You should not be recoil sensitive if you get this one. I use 168gr TSX match bullets for everything (so far). I got rid of the Tupperware stock though. Lance Lance Larson Studio lancelarsonstudio.com

Ok, I just cracked myself up. Riodot, when I was slowly scrolling down this thread, I thought for sure I was staring at a hairy ass crack....that is, until I got to your scope, and then the rest of the photo. Turns out it is the midline of your animal rug. Great rifle by the way! Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns
