Has anyone tried the Berger VLD Hunting bullet in 168 Grains with a 7mm Rem mag or similar fast 7mm?

Accuracy and performance on elk size game - any real world experience?

Thanks

The folks at Gunwerks do much long range hunting with the 7mm Rem. Mag. and the Berger VLD. They like Retumbo powder.

The philosophy is that the bullet stays intact just enough to get inside the vitals then explodes dumping all its energy and producing an instant drop.

I have not shot the VLD. If long range is the priority, the ballistic co-efficients are excellent and the bullets are very consistent.

I've shot them in my 7 Dakota, but not on game. They are very accurate for me.

There has been a lot of disucssion about using them for hunting, and a lot of success, but I still like to use a bullet that was designed from the get go to be used for hunting. The TTSX's, TSX bullets have proved very accurate for me as well out of this rig, and have only fooled with the 160gr Accubonds, and they are very accurate as well. The Bergers were a little easier to get to shoot really well I suppose....

good luck

I agree.

The long range hunting at Gunwerks is very long range and there is time for the animals to turn perfectly broadside.

The TTSX is better for still hunting, stand hunting or spot/stalk. Especially when encountering a bull elk or moose with a front quarter-to shot. I would prefer to send a TTSX through the front shoulder and accuracy can easily be 0.5 MOA.
