What velocities are you getting? I'm interested in the 200-220 grain class but am open to discussion.
Thanks

I have not loaded a bunch of 8x68S, but what I did load (RWS brass, 200 grs Nosler Part, RWS R905 - can't remember charge off hand, but it was max in the RWS book), I believe ran between 2900 and 3000 fps MV.

Although the 8x68S case is smaller than the 8mm Rem Mag, velocities are similar - the 8x68S being loaded to higher pressure. I would not be surprised if the 8mm Rem Mag handled heavy bullets a bit better, due to the larger case.

I reload normally this caliber with 70 grs of Tubal 7000 (similar to IMR-4350), in my rifle (a custom m-98, with a 24" barrel) I get around 2900 ft/s with Speer 200 grs (RWS brass and RWS 5333 primers). If I increase the load, the bolt became a little sticky, so it must be close to the limit (in my rifle).

Hi,

I only have experience with two loads, the RWS factory loaded 187gr H-mantel gives me a chrono speed of 970m/s and my 200gr Sako Hammerhead handloads gives me a chrono speed of 870 m/s. Superb accuracy with both. I just got home from SA yesterday and I used the 8x68 to take waterbuck, wildedeest (200gr bullets on these -distance 15-60m), baboons, ostrich and bushpig (187gr bullet distance 50-180m). Penetration on the pig was good, blowing straight through the animal but meat destruction was a little more than some would like...but every every animal fell in it´s tracks!

I´ll be working up some 220gr loads soon using the Swift A-frame but I feel that the 187gr bullets dose the job that the cal. was intended for ie long range.

It´s definetely not a "brush buster".
