I have a 90ies model 70 winchester model that is a 300 win mag right now. After getting a 300 wsm that shots better then it I have decided to rebarrel it. I have a 338-06 so I thought the best thing to do would turn it into a 375 H&H, Will these fit in the magazine or would there have to be work done to it? from what I can tell the 375 has the same bolt and it about .020 longer then the win mag. Any help would be great.

If you live near Anchorage and your rifle is a controlled round feed action give Stan Jackson a call. He charges about $125 to do the modifications to your action to handle the H&H. Add the price of the barrel and rebarreling fee's. It might be cheaper just to sell your rifle and buy a new 375. My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

You should be looking at about 400$ give or take a bit. I was qouted 425 for the same job, but my M70 is a 270 win so that included opening the bolt and a new magazine box. A new M70 375 will run around 1k. You already have a suitable donor rifle. Go ahead and rebarrel If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

I converted a .338 Win Mag to .375 H&H....I had to alter the magazine box by removing the stop and al;ter the bolt stop and the ejector..... It then only needed a new barrel.... It works quite well. BTW....it was a CRF classic....I can only assume any other Winchester can be modified the same! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Snowwolfe Stan is who i would bring the rifle to. I live in Anchorage. I did think about just a new rifle, but I have a H&S stock for this rifle and I will not use it anymore. It already have a mercury damper in it so I could get the stock fitted by him and I would have a semi custom that should better then most of the rifles that come off the shelve. I figured a SS 24 douglas barrel would be great for a 375 and then if I ever go to kodiak I will be in there for bears. I was thinking a 1.75X6X32 VX-3 would look good on top of it and give me a lot of eye relief. I would plan of shooting 260 grain partitions out of it.

The long action of a WM is shorter than the magnum action of a 375. You may have issues loading rounds in and extracting a live round from the chamber.

I have no such trouble with my rifle. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill

Model 70's only have 1 long action length, magnum. The 30-06 length mags just have a bolt stop and a magazine block to make it 3.4". All that has to be done is remove the bolt stop, change the extractor a bit and remove the soldered on magazine block. I have a Mod 70 300 Wby and a 270. All the parts are identical, just in slightly different positions. If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Had 300 win mag model 70 converted to a 375 h&h useing A #4 profile stainless Shilen barrel 24 inch. The only problem first time around was the magazine shell carrier from the 300 would not work for the 375. Why I got no clue, since the changed that out the rifle has worked flawlessly. Very accurate sporting arm and A pleasure to carry and shoot.
