30-06 would be my choice by far.

A little more case capacity for reloading is always nice, and it is a much more capable round with heavier bullets.

Cheers,

Dan

I would go for a little less recoil for a girl, like 260 or 7-08 max. I do not think she will enjoy either in practice sessions.

Go with the 06, you can load it down to 308 levels, if you want. I have two daughters and they've done well with .243. I rebarreled to 308 and they thought it kicked too much(light gun). I pulled my old 06 out and loaded some 130 gr light loads up. I took them out and it kicked less to them than 308 or 270, now I can't get it back. For Elk size game just throw a 180gr in there. 200 yd zero same as 130gr min load, good to go.
