Unfortunately, I've never shot anything larger than a 11 x 8 1/2" target with the 8mm/06. The action is a Turk 98 and the barrel is between 27" to 29". (I am a Mauser nut, all my rifles except my .303 Brit. and .22 are a Mauser design- 25-06, 30-06, 8mm/06, 35 Whelen and a custom .405 Win. on a P-14 action.) I don't remember the exact length. None-the-less, the power should be right on the heals of the 300s if not equal.
Power isn't my main interest though, accuracy is. I haven't had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the rifle but it will keep its shots under an inch at 100 yrds.
Good Shooting,
Smoker

now that you mention the 8x64 I culled a few hinds with mine last weekend.
load was GPA 10,1g bullets in front on Vihtavuori's 550 for 930 m/s and performance was awsome.
hopefully, I shall be able to try the 12,7 g GPA's which I have loaded with MRP in my 8mm MAZON for 900 m/s this coming weeking, and I'll let you know how did they work.
regards,
montero

Montero So, you still have the Brno in 8X64S. How has the GPA worked of wild boars and other animals? a 12,7 gram GPA from the Mazon will be strong medicine
Husky- Why? Because I had completely forgotten the Miller & Val. Greiss Now, if you send me that 404 of yours, I will correct the poll
Smoker* Sounds like a nice collection. One can't have to many mausers

Quote: I love the idea of an 8x60S, though I have had substantial difficulties getting one built here stateside, so it may have to remain adoration from afar.
Huh ? Why haven't you been able to lease a Triebel reamer for a short time ? *Puzzled* Carcano

I've only used the 8x57 Mauser round and am quite happy with it. In a good commercial rifle like the Remington Classic you can really step it up a notch or two if you reload for it. Best wishes.
None of the reamer makers I talked to had one, and would have had to make one for me for $200+. Then every source of brass I could find, which isn't many, were on indefinite backorder. RCBS die sets are $125. Anyway, it all added up to more fuss (and waiting) that I wanted to bother with.

*Shakes head* It takes a few phone calls, a security deposit for the return, and the leasing fee itself. And you'll have the reamer sent to you in 7 to 14 days, depending upon which type of delivery you choose.

You forgot my new one. The Three-Two-Five Express. It'll shoot a .323 bullet at 30-06 velocities. It will work in an 'intermediate' Mauser action becauses it uses a 57mm case. It'll be a sucess! Sound familiar? capt david

Gentlemen
The reason is very simple To my knowledge these rounds never been offered by any manufacturer. There are so many wildcats it would be impossible to list all

If I wasnt the happy owner of a nice Mannlicher NO in 8x60S Magnum, I would have voted for the 8x57IS. They both are beautiful allround cartridges, but with the 8x57IS you have the advantage to be able to buy a box of round at every iron monger. There are no practical differences between the two cartridges.
