The new Model 70 looks good to me. I'll be buying one in 7-08 when they hit the extreme fringes of civilization, AKA Northern Michigan... Big Grin

Not a very inpressive write up all things considered even with the pressure put on the writers. Maybe they should have left it dead--I will not be buying one.

Baseing your decisions and opinions solely on what you read or read into a magazine reveiw shows a lack of the discernment that you are suggesting.
In other words read several sources and check it out yourself........................DJ

Only time will tell----I predict a flop. In 5 years it will be no more. You may rest assured that I will look at them but not spend my money on them.

If a factory gun is in order then there are better choices at least for me. Have owned 8 Model 70's over the years with the exception of the customs built on the pre 64 none would shoot less than 1 moa. Say what you want but only an accurate rifle is an interesting one.

I saw that too. Wonder what that means?

Winchester returns to original name

Winchester has returned to the original name given to the brand nearly 150 years ago by Oliver Winchester: Winchester Repeating Arms. The new-old name will apply to all Winchester-branded sporting firearms.

In the mid-20th Century, the company name often was shortened to just "Winchester." In recent years, reference to Winchester firearms fell under the umbrella brand of Winchester Rifles and Shotguns. With the launch of the 2008 product line, including the new Model 70 and the new Speed Pump shotgun, the company is "returning to its roots."

The Winchester brand is licensed to the makers of Winchester firearms by the Olin Corp. Winchester Repeating Arms and Winchester Ammunition are the anchor brands for the Winchester family of products. Winchester Repeating Arms conducts business under the corporate entity of BACO Inc., and is based in Morgan, Utah. Winchester Ammunition is based in East Alton, Ill.

I wished they'd come out with a Featherweight in 358 Win. I had to buy a Classic Featherweight in 7-08 and have PacNor screw a 358 bbl on it for me. Lou
