Looking at one of these as I think it's the only thing in both youth and left hand unless you want a lever or single shot (am I wrong?). I figure 7mm-08 is about right for general purpose. Anyone had one of these? How does the caliber hold up for a 20" barrel? What do you think of the gun itself? I think the intended shooter is a little shy for the WSM series and I would like them to have a little more then 243 and 308 may be too much. Thanks for any input. Varmints, deer and paper will be the intended targets.

I owned a micro medalion in .257 Roberts. It was short and light and a dream to carry...function was superb and all in all it was a fine rifle. Accuracy was not great but acceptable...barrel was free floated from the factory.

Shooting from the bench even 100 grain bullets smacked me pretty hard. It's that light!!!

As a hunting gun it was excellent but the magazine was too short for the Roberts. You won't have that problem with the 7-08.

Don't worry about the 20" barrel....I had no trouble with mine and I shot 100 grain bullets at 3,100'/sec from that barrel.

Great hunting gun and good looking piece as well.

I have a Micro-Medallion in 308 and absolutely love it. It is indeed a pleasure to carry. I do not notice any more recoil from it as opposed to my 700 ADL in 308. I would love to have one in 260. Accuracy from mine is outstanding. I get 3/4" groups regularly with Winchester 150 grain factory cheap stuff and a little better with my 150 Partition handloads.

I have several custom rifles and the Micro always seems to go with me as well.

I'd also love to have one in 260 and kick myself in the ass for not buying the one I saw up in Portland... I was thinking wait until next season and then I'll get one.. they quit making them of course....

Buddy got a 7/08 used in the Micro Medallion for his daughter... She is only 5/3.. I have loaded up some loads using 140 grain ballistic tips at about 2400 fps....I recommended a 2 x 7 scope on it also....

She is now 16, but so far she has taken two Elk Cows, two or three antelope and three or 4 deer all with that same load of a 140 grain ballistic tip...

Ranges have been from 150 to 300 according to her dad... She shoots a lot of prairie dogs with her dad and a Howa 223, and a Savage 340 in .222 so she is ready to go come hunting season...

She has it in Billings Montana...

So that should speak well for a track record of a small rifle in the 7/08 cartridge for a short period of time in the right hands....

cheers
