Like mstarling I find the 9,3x74R Chapuis double rifle to be a most excellent hunting rifle. I have used several different bullets to take game but my 2 favorites are the 286gr Woodleigh Soft and the 286 gr. Nosler Partition. Both have performed perfectly from 12 yards to 300 yards on big and small game.

I've had guys at the range talk about my cannon 9.3x62 shooting its 250 or 286gr bullets and jibe me about overkill just before they walked over and started shooting their 50 Caliber Muzzleloaders shooting 275gr bullets with 150grs of pyrodex at 2091fps........go figure.
Dead is dead but I gotta think shooting deer with a nice double gun earns a few more style points than most........DJ

Them calling your overbore let me thinking about when I bough my 9.3x62, at that time it was unheard off, even in South Africa, I was near George where they use 270 wins, 30-06, 303 and this like, so I am in this farmers Co Up trying to get mounts for my gun, this guy who was helping me saw a friend coming in and said he must come over, 1st thing this guy ask it what is it, it looks like a 303, the other guy start laughing telling the guy the 303 will fall through the barrel case and all, witch severely pissed the guy off, so he just left, maybe the 303 is the only gun one needs

Cheers

Yesterday morning with my 9.3x62 I stopped a fast running piglet during a wild boar beating. The first cartridge was load with 286grs Partition Bullet.
I has not been a very good shot, but I hitted the spine, near the back, opening a big hole. Few seconds later, a second shot estinguished its sufferences.
Were you speaking about overkill power? This is an example, a 286 grains 9.3 bullet for a 20 kg piglet.

I've had good luck with the 9.3x64 and the 286gr partition,
a couple of years ago it flattened a big yukon moose.Shot him as he climbed the river bank on the pelly river, quartered to me the bullet went through shoulder blade hit spine and traveled down the spine tearing it up along the way, ended up in the pelvis region and weighted around 215 grs.The 9.3x64 has alot of class, one of my favorite calibers.
