contemplating buying a 30R Blaser barrel for my Merkel k1. I had been told that Blaser had dropped this chambering from their line-up. Wondering if anyone knows whether brass and dies are available. Any comments in regards to this chambering would be appreciated. Thanx GWB

I don't know much about your Merkel but before deciding make sure that it can handle 58,740 psi. A Blaser will easily handle that because of the tilting lock block. I am not sure about other break open guns. An 8X57 JRS might also be a possible choice. GW, Merkel's German website shows 30R Blaser as a caliber option for their K3 Stutzen. http://www.merkel-die-jagd.de/...uechse-k3-k3-stutzen Blaser's website DOES NOT show the 30R Blaser as a caliber option for their K95 STUTZEN (50cm = 19.6" barrels) but does reflect it as a caliber option in their regular K95 single shot RIFLE (60cm = 23.6" barrels) length. Now, I cannot guarantee how current either the Merkel or Blaser Websites are but would be pretty surpised that Blaser dropped their intital entry into their proprietary cartridge line ....... I do know that the Blaser K95 STUTZEN offerings with their short barrels are not offered in "Whumper" cartridges; apparently only in cartidges they perceive as adequate for the stubby tubes. IIRC the 30R Blaser IS NOT a Rimmed 30/06 Sprg. (sadly ..... ) but rather a different cartridge altogether that spans performance between '06 & 300 WM. From what I've noted here it's popular (enough) in Drillings, BBF's and Single Shots. European Dies (Triebel pops quickly into mind .....) are prohibitively expensive but RCBS provides although they're not exactly giving them away, either. Cheers, Number 10

Dave, I appreciate the word of caution. However, the barrel in question is part of a set of Merkel K1 barrels for the stalking rifle. It is a Merkel Barrel chambered for the K1. Thanx for the input. Best GWB Best GWB

For about 15 years I have used two firearms in that calibre: a BBF 95 and a K 95 . As been said , it is a step over the 3006. More or less popular in Europe. Many a combination gun in 308 or 3006 has been rechambered for it. RWS , Blaser and perhaps Sologne load it. Easy to reload and very forgiving respect its components, able to digest many powders and bullet types - weights. I use RCBS dies. RWS brass is excelent and as I load at mild pressures, brass last MANY reloads. Wish you luck in your decision. Pulki.

Pulki, Thank you sir. I've located dies and brass. Now I just need to determine whether the barrel, being for the K1, has the Recknagel pivot rings included before I commit. Those are not the easiest ring mounts to find and are quite expensive IIRC. Best, GWB
