Bill, how do you like that little CZ 527 in 7.52x39? Is it accurate enough for you. My CZ 527 Lux/American is very accurate with my handloads and will do in a pinch with the whitebox .223s. Just for grins, go to whittakerguns.com and click on new rifles. Take a gander at the prices of the CZs there. I think CZs are just about the best thing going for the money. Have fun ... Tom Purdom

Tom,
I like mine. I have only fired it with factory ammo and all groups average about 1.5" at 100 yds. I noted that the barrel may have some pressure on it so I will likely bed it and try again with the same ammo before moving on to handloads. Mine is surpprisingly heavy for a it's petite size. I believe much of that weight is in the barrel which is good in that the groups never walk as the barrel heats up.

No complaints really other than those couple of nit-picks. I'd like one in something like the 6mm-223 or 6.5-223 or whatever the wildcats are called.

Bill, what loads are you using?

I've only sighted it in at 50 yards so far. groups are good but I think I can do better. It was a hot day and I was zeroing in 5 rifles.

I'm loading a Hornady 123 grain soft point using 29 grain of Reloder 7.

In my SKS, it shot abour 2400 fps.

Those are nice rifles (although I'd prefer a Mauser-type, staggered-row internal magazine over that detachable box!)

Here's how mine shoots:

I use 150-grain spitzers and 180 grain round-nose bullets in my 7.62X39mm cases, for the CZ and SKS both. Mostly in .308" size, and they work well with H335 powder.......

Nice looking rifles. Just wondering what people are paying for them? CZ's MSRP is $606. Usually most retailers are a bit cheaper than the MSRP.

I'd really like to have a bolt gun in 7.62x39. Ruger used to produce an M77 chambered in it, but I think that was a while ago.

I'm very happy with mine except for a couple of nitpicks. My old eyes won't do well with the factory open irons, and I can't find a suitable peep sight. A scope runs it up out of the featherweight class and must be mounted too high.

It's a super cast bullet rifle. The Lee C312-155-2R bullet shoots better for me than the military type ammo does. Trigger is about as good as it gets.

This is to cndrm: go to whittakerguns.com and check out that company's prices. It seems to go for $464.99. Of course, you have to add in shipping and handling and then transfer fees, which should add about another $50 total, or $514.99. There is an outfit in Washington State which mass sells the CZs. Go to GunBroker.com and in the search engine type in CZ 527, then just start checking the companies by clicking on each one until you hit the Washington State company. Good luck ... Tom Purdom

I think they retailed for about $479 in my neighborhood but I paid just over $400 because mine came from the rack and had a scratch on the wood. I love sample sales.

Can lower scope rings be had for that model?

Leupold and Burris list "medium" rings for the CZ 527. They are a bit pricey, however. Tom Purdom

Clearance for the bolt handle is the problem. The design uses the handle to secure the bolt assembly and it cannot practically be lowered. All the rings for the CZ 527 are pricey, and rings any lower than the factory rings would take very careful scope selection.

It's a minor problem aggrievated by the carbine stock which is designed for use with open irons. I can live with it, but would be happier with the rifle style stock.

I don't mean to put anyone off. All things considered, it's a fine rifle at a very reasonable price in a neglected niche. I don't know of a better for the Eastern woodshunter who wants or needs a light rifle with low recoil. The 7.62x39 will do anything a .30-30 will do and will do it a lot more accurately.

Despite my complaints about weight even with a Burris 2x7 mini on it it weighs just under 7.5 lbs. It is very accurate and I have plenty of clearance and could probably have gone one step lower on the rings. I forget whose I am using. I have no problem with the stock as regards using a scope. The heavy barrel contour provides a very good hang for offhand use.

Several years ago I killed a couple of deer with a Chinease AK-47 [semi-auto], and 123 [could have been 124 grain ???] Hansen Factory Soft Point ammo.
Both were shot at around 85 yards and were killed very quickly.
