.......Any of you rocket scientists have a good idea how fast a 16 " barreled 9.6x64 Brenneke would shoot a 250gr TSX ....my 21.5" barreled 9.3 shoots the load @2750 fps with a load of 68.5 gr RL15 ????

................Hi Bent ,,, Here,s the deal ,,,I really want to make up a scout type rifle .......I like my 9.3x64 so much that I don,t want some other caliber.....Tho the 358Norma is on the short list....But a nice light , short compact rifle would be perfect with the 230 gr GS HV bullet @ 2700 fps that would be a really nice rifle to have around especially..... @ about .......mayby an 18 " barrel ..............My ears ring most of the time anyway ....Is there a formula for figureing how many FPS will be lost per inch of barrel cut off ???????

gumboot458-I used to run a 9.3x64 about 15 or so years back, tis kind of a neat cal.

I've also done a fair bit of work in doing before and after speed testing for speeds in tubes that I've had cut down.

My best guess is that you'd loose about 20-25 fps per inch, and that isn't much to worry about.

My BIG concern would be decibal level, no doubt and muzzle flash. I like the shorter tubes but personally would not go much below 19" on this gun.

If it were me I'd go 19" and then see how it felt. You could do a b4 and after with it and see what you loose for speed and also you'll note what you pick up for noise.

Good luck to ya,

My idea of ashort barreled 9.3x64 is about 21"...but if 16" floats ya boat why not, cause you come across as the kind of guy who would have no fear in strapping a rocket booster to your roller skates. Big Grin

Gumboot

25 to 35 fps per inch is about right.
The shorter you go the more fps per inch you loose.

I am a fan of short light rifles. My favorite 375 H&H is my Blaser R 93 with its 19 3/4" Tracker barrel.

Before that I had a 20" bbled SAKO Handy rifle [my brother has it now].

Depending on the action and stock demensions a 16" might be a bit butt heavy.

However if you use a scout scope that will shift some of the weight forward.

...........So maybe an 18 " ....Should get 2700 FPS from the 230 GS HV ....and it will still be real handy ......I,ll use a Ruger stainless 77 action ,,1 lb stock ..Should make a nice packin around rifle ......
