I have one that according to serial numbers was built in 1923. I have killed a couple of deer and a coyote with it. Is it considered a medium bore or a small bore???????
it's almost a 9mm. i have one also, and a box of ammo for it. i am still looking for brass. i think i'm gonna end up pulling the ammo down, and anneal the case necks, and use some 180 gr cast in it. or i'm gonna end up cutting down some of my 357 max brass, turning down the rim, and cutting an extractor groove in it.

Buddy of mine made the brass I use by turning down the rim something like 20 thousandths and opening up the extractor groove using regular .357 brass functions perfectly. Forgot to mention that I have killed a javelina with it.
And no he wasn't wearing the hat when I shot him.
I need to get some more bullets, looking at both Graf and Buffalo Arms and possibly some brass with the correct head stamp, it is pricey but would be fun to have.
They were really popular in such places. I am planning on replacing the butt stock and fore end on mine. Looking at the possibility of having a Ghost Ring sight put on the gun.

I was wondering about an equivalent handgun round, and guessed a .357- thanks

It is a fun gun to shoot, bought it for $180.00.
You'll see some marked "property of (whatever sheriff's dept, etc)".
Lots of rifle for 180 bucks

Yes it is. My buddy thought the barrel was shot out due to the tinned bullets that were available, and the bore does not look the best.
However, if I do my part it does deliver adequate hunting accuracy. I actually took the rifle with me in 2010 and considered using it for a black bear over a bait. That might happen yet before I get too old.
