Just bought a 300 H&H. Been wanting one for a while, and finally found one I'm happy with. If I could have picked, I would have chosen a 24" barrel. This one is a new in the box Remington 700 classic with a 22" barrel. Plans are to start working up some 165, and 180 gr. loads.
Any load info. Much appreciated. Bullets on hand are 165, and 180 A-Frames, 165 and 180 TTSX, 180 Sierra GK HPBT, 180 Nosler Accubonds, and 180 Berger hunting bullets. Will be working up elk loads.

Congrats on picking up one of the great ones.
My pre 64 M70 300 H&H loves 180 TTSX's and RL22, small groups and dead elk happen.

IMO you simply can't do better than the 180 grain A-Frame.

180-grainers and H4831 or RL-22. Work up to 70 grains or so.

I used to live in Clute,TX, then moved to Lake Jackson. Loved the area. Worked for Dow Chemical, and played a lot of softball.
Windswept was my fave for shrimp dinners, and DJ's BBQ was the best in town. Any of them still around?

Bryan's B-B-Q beats DJ's these days -- he worked at DJ's. Windswept is gone, but DOW remains. Hornady brass is good, but chamfer the fool out of it first time and try to chamber whatever you work with before making a bunch of rounds. My 721 won't take over 70 grains H4831 with 200-grain Speers but spoke for my first kudu! Swapped two shotguns for it in Mason, TX. An already customized job, the only trouble I had was a trigger pin slipping over to block the safety. Enjoy!!

My OM 70 300 H&H would be one of the last two rifles to leave its home here.

I own/have owned numerous rifles in 30 caliber. The 308 Win. and the 300 H&H are my favs.

It started life as a Rem. 700 Custom KS in 375 H&H and was re-barreled to 300 H&H and accurized by HCR. I gave it a Krylon Webbing spray, rattle can paint job.


The gent I purchased it from had several boxes of factory ammo.


The 180 gr. Barnes TSX are killers........





However, my go to load for the 300 H&H is 180 gr. Nosler Accubonds over 69 Gr. RL-19, Fed. 215M primers at 3.580" OAL

I thought all Remington 700 Classics in 300 H&H came with 24" barrels? I know mine does. You said yours was NIB so a 22" barrel is strange.

I shot an old pre 64 custom stocked 300 H&H for 40 plus years, I settled for the 200 gr. Nosler partition at 3000 FPS for everything..I used old H4831 milsurp powder in it and that 26 inch tube hit that 3000 FPS mark without a bit of excess pressure. It was and is a perfect elk rifle, great on deer, the Nosler opens pretty fast so it works on both small and large animals and you get pass throughs and and a good blood trail, 99.9% short blood trails..

Only down side is age and the damn thing was heavy as hell..so I sold it..It sure outperformed anything I could get out of my sons 300 Win Mag. on the chronograph..would a animal know the difference, probably not.

Was reading this old post, need to make a correction. The barrel length is 24". Funny thing though, the box says 22".

Here are my two favorite 300 H&H loads. I shoot these in my Ruger #1 Boddington and my Cooper Excalibur. Both loads shoot sub MOA groups in both rifles.

Same here. Finally found a near identical twin for my custom sako 375 H&H. Her sako action and 26" barrel are finished in Rogard and NP3, sits in a McMillan sako classic stock and is topped with a Leupold VX3 4.5-14 with BC reticle. Can't wait to load up some ammo and get her sited in.

This post brought on a state of remorse, so I went shopping and bought me another 300 H&H, got a real deal on a nice Rem 721, and it shoots like a bench rest winner...Its my first push feed in a long time, but its been blessed by the Red Gods not to fail me, so it has a permanent home..and my ammo stash and dies was retained in storage box so I have a lifetime of ammo and WW brass. It shoots the same hot loads as my old Win. pre 64 did and even shoots them a little bit better and that says a bunch.
