FN Mauser value?

Shop I go to frequently has a virtually pristine late 1960's FN Mauser Supreme in 7mm Rem Mag. The only flaw is someone cut the stock off by about 1.5 inches and slapped on an old Pachmyer recoil pad...so its too short for us full figured gals.

But the metal and wood are pristine. Any idea as to the value?

Mo cheap, mo value...

I like the older early 50s fns more , with the shroud safetys, no side trigger safety.

Id say $250-450 buy it now , Over $500-600 uhh... probably worth it if its exactly what you want but beter deals can be found if you search hard.

I have an FN Supreme in .270 Win. that was made probably 1972-3 as I bought it new in 1973. The stock is ugly as hell, but oh does that gun shoot. Best $75 I ever spent.
If the gun is that nice, excepting the stock, I'd just buy it and put it in a Butler Creek stock and forget about it. I've glass bedded two FN Mausers into them and they've turned out to be darn good shooters.
While I am no big fan if the 7mm Rem. Mag., a nice FN in the BC stock properly glass bedded would go a very long way towards making up a very nice all round rifle. The only thing I don't like is the side safety. On mine, it slips off way too easy.

With the cut down stock it's just a shooter,so if the caliber is what you want consider that when pricing it. A really nice specimen would probably go for anywhere from $650-800.

Yes, its a real shame someone cut it so short. Otherwise the gun looks like it just came out of the box. The finish on both the metal and wood is pristine...
If I wanted to use it I'd end up building up about 1.5" of spacers under a pad...which would look goofy on this otherwise fine gun.
He's asking $1100 which I told him is about $400 over blue book for a gun in this condition.

I'd ask that guy if he robbed little old ladies right aafter they cashed their Social Security checks as his day job.
There was a guy at the last gun show that wanted $900 for a J.C. Higgins M50 .270 Win. just because it had a Pachmeyr Lo-swing scope mount on it. Said it was a rare collector's item. bull Which is what I told him. The gun was a total beater. About all that was salvagable was the action and scope mount. Lots of rust all over the gun. The stock looked like beavers had been gnawing on it, and the bore looked like someone had converted corrosive GI 06 brass to .270 anddidn't clean it right. A real beater. YUP! Definitely a real collector's item. Roll Eyes

The stock is a throw-away. I might give him $400 for the barreled action.

I just bought an old FN, number under 2000 in .338 Win. with a model 70 style safety, hinged floorplate and a McMillan stock for $435 on auctionarms. I like the heck out of the old 1950's actions, they're just hard to beat. This one I bought had an ugly camo cloth covering that was over a McMillan stock. I removed it and the glue and repainted it so it looks like a rifle now. I also loaded six cartridges, the first two three shot groups averaged .890.

I'd agre that a clean barrelled action is worth something, and $400 for a clean FN wouldn't be too much, you can always stick it in a B&C stock with the aluminum bed for about $200 and have a fine shooting iron.

The last pristine FN in 7 mm Mag I saw was priced at $750, and it was really nice. It sold for that too.

Offer the guy 550 for it and restock. The action is super smooth. I am assuming it has a good trigger and the bore is as pristine as the outside. All these so called Mauser lovers sound like cheapskates Smiler. I've had one (custom barreled) for 35 years. It is still a tackdriver. Has a Timney trigger with side safety and an old Richards microfit classic stock. My son will get it next year while I build a 7 Mashburn.
