I vote for the 8x57. Its a great round in a nice looking rifle. If Im not building a 7x57 Mauser rifle at the moment, i would order this rifle.

That's a fine cartridge there. I'd love to get my hands on one of those rifles, too bad it's collectable, it would make a great hunting rifle, good for just about anything. 200gr. bullets at reasonable velocities would make great medicine for the local black bear population and normal ranges.

I just got my February 2004 Number 227 Handloader magazine today (01-06-04). In it is an article saying Remington's 23rd Classic edition is chambered for the .300 Savage. Is this rifle for 2004 or 2005 or what? I thought according to what I am reading on the forums the Classic was to be an 8 X 57. What gives?

I've got two 8mms sitting in the back of my gun safe. The first one was picked up by my Dad from the steps of the Cathedral of Cologn Germany, seems the fella using it met a bad end when the antitank shell hit the Panther tank parked on the steps. My Father sent it back as a war trophy. My Grandfather used this rifle for his deer rifle in Colorado until he died. Other then having the handguard trimmed back to the first barrel band and an old four power scope mounted it's ready for the Home Guard. The other 8mm is a BRNO military barrel and action polished up, new sporter stock, Lyman reciever sight. I've not put 10 rounds thru either of the rifles in the past 15 years. Been thinking they'd make great cast bullet rifles. This Remington looks interesting but I'd really like to see Winchester do the model 70 controled feed in 8mm. Jim

Oooo I been waiting for this. I still Remember this passage from Ken Waters article on the 8x57. "It would be interesting to see how a custom rifle with a good quality 24" barrel properly bedded, a good trigger, and scope sight would perform."

Elkslayer, The 300 Savage was last year's classic. This year is the 8x57. I've handled three of them so far. We sold them right away so I haven't gotten one yet. Bob257

Man, I can see I ain't gonna' eat much this year. The 700 CDL is just gorgeous; a Classic in 8mm, plus, I'm still trying to round one up in 300 Savage; and, that 504 rimfire looks really nice, too. R-WEST
