tom ga huntercustom 300 wsm?
Friday I stop by my gunsmith to discuss a new rifle. I have a Brown SA M700 BDL stock, so I'm thinking about a Borden or Stiller action with Remington bottom metal. He said That a Remington 700 box was not long enough to make an efficient 300 WSM. So I'm thinking no new custom rifle this year or just build another 257 Roberts (I have 4) on a Remington 700SA. What do you think. This is a well known & respected gunsmith.

Paul from nzwhy build another 257 roberts when you alreaddy have 4?
make a 300 or a 7mm WSM, id prefer the 7MM if your going long range. just get different box than the remington one and make magic happen!

R FlowersI think you should find another gunsmith.
I own a Remington 700 XCR chambered in 300WSM and it is a very nice rifle. The Remington action is just fine for this cartridge.
Mine feeds well and I can get all the performance that one should expect out of that cartridge.
Just yesterday I was shooting 180 grain Nosler Partitions into 3/4 inch groups at 3000 fps. What more could you ask of a short magnum?

tom hollandDon't know about your gunsmith but Wyatt makes extended magazine for the Rem short action to handle the WSM cases.

megalomaniacditto the comment on the Wyatt's box... if your smith doesn't know about that, well, you might ought to consider shopping for another

tom ga hunterI made the requirement to use factory Remington bottom metal because the stock is already set up for it & I don't want to weaken the stock. I am probably just not going to build a new rifle this year..I have customs in..257,270,7x57,280,308,30'06,300wm & 35 whelen
