Howdy Group-
I'm new around here and was looking for something to post as a "first timer." I figured I would share my experience with a new rig I set up for whitetail deer hunting various terrains from the foothill mountains of Northeast Alabama to the Soybean fields of Southwest Georgia. I wanted something tough as an OTC rifle so I looked around and decided on Remington's XCR. I went with the tried and true .270 Win and put a Leupold 4.5-14x50mm VX-III on it and went with Hornady 140 grain BTSP Interlock Light Magnums. I don't reload yet, but have lined up things to get started after the first of the year. Anyhow, the rifle seems to be a good rig for something out of the box. I didn't care much for the offset grey panels on the stock but the function of those softer panels are nice. I've shot a 4 - "3" shot groups from a solid bench using a Caldwell's Lead Sled as a rest and the avg. of the 4 groups is .611". I was stunned at this result from a factory gun using factory ammo. Stunned and well pleased. I'll figure out how to post pictures soon and I'll post pics of the groups as well as the set up... Oh, I put a Rifle Basixs trigger in the gun (first one I've done) and it's pretty good. I've been told I should have just had the factory trigger worked on by a good smith, but I jumped the "gun" (no pun intended.

I like collecting "Hunting Guns" mostly deer hunting rilfes and turkey shotguns, but this seems like a very awesome forum to discuss ideas and learn from others.

Hey Andy,
Welcome aboard. That sounds like a nice rig you've got there. Sorry for all of your troubles over at Woody's. This site is loaded with info from some very knowledgable "gun dudes" from all over the world. I do more reading than posting over here, if ya know what I mean.

Hey what’s up D2D, and congrats on you rifle purchase! I to have purchase a 700 XCR in the 338 RUM I haven’t had the privilege to shoot it yet but it is a nice looking gun. I hope it shoots as nicely as your gun does, from the story I had heard I am sure it will.

Happy shooting Big Grin

Hey D2D, No need to be all concerned, once you get it broken in, it will shoot better than that.

After all, it is a Remington. Big Grin

As an added note, for a full size rifle it seems lighter than most which to me is an added benefit for caring it on long hikes to my hunting areas inside the local national forest (no trucks, no atvs, just foot traffic).

Every bone stock factory 700 I've ever shot will shoot that good and better if the man/woman behind the trigger does their part.
Problem is most people cant shoot that good and then they want to blame the rifle cause they cant shoot worth a crap.

Jarrod - I agree with you to an extent but a bone stock factory Remington 700 that has averaged .611 for it's first three groups with FACTORY AMMO is not what I would call a run of the mill shooting rifle. That is quite good.

As much as I love Rem 700 rifles, I'd have to say D2D's results are very rare. That goes for most off the rack rifles.

Jarrod, you are correct in saying that most people don't get the "good" out of one, though.

Remingtons are not my favorite rifles, but groups in the 6s are nothing to sneeze about. Congrats on the shooter..

I, like HP, am not a big Remington guy, But I must admit they shoot prety darn good and the new CDL is even a nice looking rifle to boot.
I have about 1800 into a custom .270 and it won't shoot that good yet, but I have not quite givin up on it yet Congratulations on a great shooting rifle and you put a great scope on it too although more power than i want, but it will work fine...tj3006

Agree. I was pleasantly surprised with it. I saw a rack of them at Gander Mountain and they were very nice looking.
