No need to unless you feel the need for a hotter spark in North Pole temps.

I read one time that a good rule of thumb is that any cartridge that takes over 60 grains of powder should have a mag primer. I don't know how they came up with that, but I have used both and don't notice much difference. With ball powders, I think the ignition will be a little better with the mag. Try both, check for performance.

I don't use magnum primers in my 30/06. With my load of IMR4350 I use large rifle primers. I use magnum primers for magnum rifles loads. I can see it if you need a hotter spark.

No need at all.....but you certainly may if you wish.

I've yet to be convinced that there's any difference at all.

Why not use the primers that were used by the powder manufacturers in deveolping their reloading data?

Tom,
I use standard primers when loading the '06 with Reloader 19 and Reloader 22.

Some folks claim amazing changes in velocity and accuracy by a switch in primers. I've never experienced that but since you asked you might as well give it a try. Back your load down a bit and start over when you switch to magnum primers. Big Grin

Well, sometimes the manual/powder co. uses a primer that isn't readily available. Sometimes the manula/powder co. doesn't specify that powder/bullet combo that you want to use. I load RL22 under a 180grNP in my son's 06 * use 210M primers. Works fine even down to freezing temps.

Like Fredj338, I too use Fed210M(match, not magnum) primers when reloading this cartridge. In fact, I use this primer in the 7mm and 300 mags. Works perfectly.

I use RL22 for my 7 mag and use mag primers. I always have done it that way for the magnum. I have not seen any advantage in the regular calibers, though and it may not even be needed for the magnum-I don't know.

If you try a magnum primer in the 06 don't use the Winchester ones. I use CCI mag primers per the manual in a 300SAUM and the Winchester Mag primers gave me pressure spikes.

I would say yes simply because you probably have a case full of slightly compressed slow burning powder. Having said that, I'd try both and let the rifle tell me which works best.

I´ve given up on large rifle primers and use magnum primers for all my reloading.

Haven´t had any problems.
