I went to the range today. It was negative 3 and cold as hell. I thought I'd try out some 338 winchester ammo I loaded a month before.
This is what happened. The bullet is Barnes TSX 225gr. I was shooting at 200 yards from a bench with my Ruger hawkeye. I fired my first shot and saw it by the lower right corner of the black square. I fired my second shot and couldn't see any new holes. I fired my third shot and still only saw one hole @200 yards from my scope @ 9x power. The first 3 shots went into a .410" group. I thought I'd see if I could get a fiveshot group like that, but no such luck. the last two where off because of me not taking my time. I'm very pleased with this rifle to say the least.

Damn good job, gohip! Both of you did well to say the least (both you and the rifle!). thumb

If I had shot a group like that, I'd be posting it too! I had a M77MKIIRS in 338 that really loved those 225gr Tripleshocks. Shot them way better than anything else I tried to feed it, looks like yours is no different. Congrats on an outstanding group.

Really nice shooting! Speaks well for you, the load and the rifle.

That's great shooting. I always save targets like that. Don't you hate it when you've got one of those great groups going and you pull the last shot of the group? Here's my last one:

All my 338s are very accurate.I have shot a bunch of clover leafs also.I shot a bunch of 3/4" groups at 200 yards with my 338 rugers. They have the perfict barrel weight for the 338.Thats why the short mag 338 they are making wont shoot as good.I have shot deer out to 425 yards with my 338 win mag Ruger.I can shoot it better than any other gun I have except my 338-378 Weatherby Accumark.I have outshot alot of custom $5000 with my good old Ruger.I have 12 338s 11 of them are Ruger model 77s.The stainless Ruger model 77 Mark II with a laminated stock is the sweetest shooting 338 you will ever shoot. It kicks less than all the light weight 30-06s I ever shot. Its super accurate.I think the 338 win mag in the Ruger 77 is the best Rifle for all North American big game bar none.

Eh, I've seen better..... Big Grin

Just kidding! That's an incredible group for it to be that close at 200 yards with a hunting rifle and ammunition. I've got a 340 that shoots similarly, and it's nice to know if you miss something, it's your fault and not the rifles! thumb

Thanks for all the replies. guys. I normally don't get that excited, but that one got me excited. I think I'll stick with that load and not change a thing. now I just have to see if I can get a super accurate load with the 250 gr sierra game kings. I'll keep practicing and see if I can get 5 shots in a group like that.
My hawkeye feels like a 30-06 to me with it's hogue stock, so it is not painfull at all to shoot.
the 338 winchester and ruger rifles seem to be a perfect caliber to gun match

That also shows the accuracy potential of those TSX bullets....

hoepfully that group won't open up when the weather heats up...

My son and wife were just back in Minnesota for 2 weeks, as he father passed away... Even tho my son was born back there, all of that below Zero weather was a culture shock to him, that is for sure...
