How significant is the differnece in recoil. I'm looking for a light fast deer gun and the 270 suits what I want. I ask only because if the WSM isn't much different I might as well go for that just for the heck of it. (I do own a 7mm rem mag so fexibility isn't much of an issue).
The recoil difference would be the same as the 300WSM and the 30-06, almost the same, within 2 lbs. of recoil. I shot those two and there wasn't much difference. Jay

I beg to differ fellas. I HAVE both calibers, that 270 wsm with 150 gr is one loud kicking mean mother compared to the 270. You see the problem is that the wsm's are made lighter and shorter as a rule. I load my 270 wsm down about 150 fps and it is much more manageable. I compare that light 270 wsm close to my 300 win mag that is at least 1.5 lbs heavier.

I have both. My WSM weighs just over 1/4 lbs more than my normal .270 Win. The .270 WSM definitely kicks more w/ 150 grain bullets loaded in both...~2900 fps in .270 Win & 3100 fps in WSM, but it is not a hard kicker by any means. Very similar to a .30-06 w/ 180s to me. The .270 WSM does not kick anywhere near as hard as a couple pound heavier .300 Win Mag loaded w/ 180s.
