I've been real happy with the 2 Kimbers I have, and here's why;
2/23/06 fired 3 - 3 shot groups from my classic french walnut .300 WSM at 100 yds to confirm a load. #1-.74" #2-.62" #3-.75
1/27/06 fired 3 - 3 shot groups to confirm a load through my .243 Montana at 200 yds. #1-.95"
#2-.79" #3-1.95" two shots touching, then I pulled the third.
I just sent a shot-out custom .300 Jarrett in for rebore to 35 cal, which will make it a .358 STA. I don't need a .338, but these two Kimbers have convinced me that I'm going to have one in a Montana when they become available this spring anyway.

I bet a ne long action Kimber would be a wonderfull rifle. I was thinking of a .270 but 1st it would be hard to find and second, I think I would be at least as happy with a CZ 550 American...tj3006

Cobrad, Awesome report. I think that with the demise of Winchester M-70's the Kimber's are going to become the new American "Rifleman's Rifle". They are occupying the quality niche that a pre-war M-70 used to have at the top of American firearms manufacturing................DJ

....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

When they introduced the 84 a few years ago I went and looked at one. The wood in the barrel channel was crocked and when I dry fired it the firing pin spring just sounded weak. I gave it back to the salesman, walked away and never gave the brand another thought until last week. I was in Sportsman Warehouse and asked to see one of the Montana models. I've heard a lot about them and just wanted to see for myself. The rifle looked really well built, but I just can't get excited about SS/plastic stocked rifles. I handed the gun back and without asking the salesman grabbed a wood one and stuck in my hands. The stock looked very well done, no open gaps except for the barrel channel and it looked even on both sides. Then I shouldered the rifle and cycled it a few times. Man what a nice gun. I bought a M-70 a few weeks ago because...well you know. I've listed the featherweight on gunbroker and as soon as it sells I'm going to order one of the new long action 8400's. With all the reports I'm hearing, I can't wait to get one.

Here is the target that Kimber sent with my 84M 308 Montana. All are at 100 yds with factory ammo. The first two are under 3/4" and the last with match ammo is under 3/8".

I have stopped looking at other big game rifles. These Kimbers make me feel confident and relaxed.
