All,

I'm thinking of buying a new rifle from these folks, I've generally read and heard good things about them, but I'm wondering if any of you have any first hand knowledge?

Any feedback is appreciated, thank you in advance...

Regards,
Craig Nolan

If no one here has any first hand experience, you might try doing a search over in the Gunsmithing Forum. Look under Rifles, Inc. and Lex Webernick.

Craig,
I had a look at Rifles Inc. in Reno(SCI) they seem like pleasant no nonnsense folk, they offered me to come to visit their place and have a shoot of the rifle I was looking at ( 4.6lb Ti700sa 6.5/284 140xlc2940mv with .3" test target)..I guess what their saying is,you can shoot the rifle to see for yourself, thats shows confidence in your product&claims, however I didnt take the offer, nor buy the rifle, too light for me), i was impressed with the finish&care taken to get full lug contact, they probably trimmed and sculptured the titanium action more than what I thought was neccessary,... Im usually quite happy with an action that is just accurised(on plastic rifles).

No personal experience, however remember reading great reports on them. Good luck. Let us know how you like it if you do get one.

They have a good reputation, but If you are going to spend big bucks, I would look at new ultra light arms before commiting.

A few months ago I shared a deer hunt with two fellows who are major league sheep hunters. Their rifles of choice are synthetic customs by either Rifles Inc. or Bansners. These guys can afford anything, are real gun nuts and they preferred the Rifles Inc. guns. Calibers in camp were 257 Weatherby and 7MM STW for sheep. Another hunter had an 06 and it shot beautifully and appeared very well balanced and exhibited good quality work. I'm talking myself into one soon!

Ben, the owner of a local Gunshop has two Rifle Inc. weapons a 257WBY and a 338WIN.Left handed Light weight BB Guns. He has used them all over the west and NC. Mostly uses the 257 and it shoots the Factory 117gr RN beautifully. He could afford anything and continues to use these well used rifles, nothing else to my knowledge.

Les had moved to Pleasanton, Texas a few years ago and has a pretty decent Web Site. Visit there and the NULA site as mentioned above.

All,

thank you for the input; as recommended above, I did a search of Lex Webernick/Rifles Inc. in the Gunsmithing forum, found nary a bad word about Lex or his workmanship...

TJ - I looked at NULA's site, rifles seem comparable to Lex's; I haven't heard anything negative on NULA's products either...

I'm leaning strongly towards Rifles, lightweight strata in .270 Wby, although I'll see if the rifle can come in around 5 1/2 - 5 3/4# or so rather than the 5# as shown on the website...

Thank you again for all your advice,

Regards,
Craig Nolan

Have a RI 280 on a TI action--replaced a NULA 280AI with it and no regrets.

Very accurate. Prints under an inch without a whole lot of effort on my part.

24" barrel, .615 at the muzzle, goes 5.15#

Excellent folks to deal with--straightforward, no BS.

I have several friends that own them up here in Wisconsin. It started with one guy who got about 4 rifles for himself and his wife (both avid hunters). Then as word spread I know of 4 other guys that own them locally. I don't think any of them regret it. All are very good shooters---even the super lightweights. None have any known problems like feeding etc or reliability issues of any kind. One of the guys has gotten to know Lex pretty good and I can tell you from what he says that Lex is a real "stand up guy". Somtimes I wish I had just one really good custom built rifle in the safe instead of 5 run of the mill factory rifles. Several of the guys here use the Rifles inc in 300 wby and they don't kick bad at all. Some are downloading them and using them even on our Wis whitetail season cause they are so sweet to carry.
Re "smoothness" I've handled a couple of them and I can't say they are any better or worse than your average rem action. I think most of the time is spent making the gun light...not trying to make the bolt work like butter.

The one's I've handled and I've spent the last 4 days doing a rifle course next to one; they're awesome rifles. Extremely light, but very manageable recoil. Shoot GREAT. Barrels heat up fast though, about 3 shots max. Action is smooth and the trigger crisp.

Lex gives you what "you want", but when dealing with NULA you will take what they want to give you. If your desire is for something a bit different than their standard rifle, then you can get it done after you get it from them, or do what I did - passed on their rifles.

I don't have any of Lex's rifles, but also know some guys that have them. They generally buy more than one from him, which says it all.

Best of luck to you.

I know a guy who uses a Rifles, Inc. rifle. The man can afford anything he wants twice and doesn't compramise on quality. If thats the gun he's choosing to take all over the world, then they got to be one helluva rifle.

I just recived a rifle from Lex about two months ago. It turned out just as I hoped and I would not hesitate to use them again. Mine is a master series in 300 Win and shoots 1/2 inch at 100 yards with factory ammo. Lex and Lina are very nice to deal with, and I liked that the person that you are talking to on the phone will be the one doing the work, they are also very good about getting back to you if they are out and emails normally are answered very quickly.

I have had three Rifles Inc rifles. I currently use Ultra Light Arms rifles. It is a better product, despite what Hot Core says, you can get what you want. They make their own action, and don't just work over a factory action. A much better product by far.

"You" may be able to get what "you" want, but when I tried to buy from Mel I could not get what I wanted. Also got an Attitude from Mel that if you didn't like what he offered - too bad!

Back then I wanted Stainless and he did not offer it. Don't know if he does now and could not possibly care less if he does offer it now.

Waited a week and called Mel back. Asked if it would be possible for him to have one Armoloyed for me. He said basically, "I told you before you either take what I offer or look elsewhere. Nothing wrong with blue, it holds up just fine." Thought it was an interesting way to talk with a potential customer.

I took the same amount of money I was going to waste on one of his rustable blue rifles and got two stainless rifles with money left over about 2 years later.

So, I can agree with HHI #4694, perhaps "you" can get what "you" want through Mel, I couldn't back when I tried - and I'll never bother trying again.
