Sako Stainless Rifle Recall?

I went to look at the highly touted Sako 75 rifles only to be told that there was a recall on certain serial numbers, and until the serial numbers were determined, all stainless rifles had been pulled off the shelf. Anyone know what is going on? Also, does anyone now if there are still any 75s made in the ultramag or 300wby caliber? They were last year. Present literature and the company website only show standard calibers now. I was hoping to pick up a stainless synthectic in 300wby or one of the ultramag calibers. Thanks

I bought my S.S. Sako .300 RUM a year ago. After firing a couple of boxe's of shell's, i had squeezed the trigger when the safety was on and the firing pin dropped a bit. The pin did strike the primer, but not enough to discharge the cartridge. When you would take the safety off after this happen's and squeeze the trigger, the gun would not fire. I took it back to the dealer and it was fixed, no charge to me. Sako would not admit it had a problem . I told them it was pretty sad to have to find out that 20% of these Model's had this problem, and i had to hear about it on the internet.(this web site) And i was told this year by the Sako rep. that they no longer chamber it in 300 RUM. He said there was not enough demand for that caliber. Hope this help's you out.

We are still waiting to find out which serial numbers are involved. You can get a 7mm Ultra Mag or a 7mm STW off of gunbroker.com for about $600.00. The affected rifles will likely be the light weight versions.

Have a look at the following:

There definitely is - or was - a safety issue with one lot of Sako and Tikka barrels. (they are both made in the same factory)

I ordered a Sako Hunter Model 75 in a .338 caliber, and was told by the dealer that this rifle would not be available until January or February 2005. A friend just bought a Tikka bolt-action hunting rifle in a 30.-06. Any news on that specific rifle?

I will also take this opportunity to thank everyone in helping me make this decision. Now I just hope I can obtain this rifle prior to my spring bear hunt in Canada.

ELKaddict, Call Cott Firearms in Missouri 660-784-2688, I bought a 7mm Ultra for $649 plus shipping. As of last month he had several other Ultra Mags available in both wood and Stainless at excellent prices. His service was exemplary, I can't think of anything he could have done better.
I plan on trying my 300 RUM M=75 Stainless on Elk next weekend...........DJ

It applies to Sako and Tiika stainless steel rifles purchased after 2/04. If you have a rifle in question call 1-800-503-8869 and give them your name, phone number and serial number. I purchased a new SS 75 in 4/04 and they promptly called back in 10 minutes and informed me it was not subject to the recall.

elkaddict, I've got a stainless .300 Wby Sako 75 I've been considering selling (with reloading dies). If you're interested in it send me a PM. However, I will tell you it's got a walnut stock (nicely figured), not the synthetic you want. It's been a great rifle, never had a problem with it. My big game hunting is probably going to be limited to whitetail deer only, so I don't really have a need for this rifle. Plus, I've got a son who will be hunting soon, so I'd like to part with this gun to buy one for him.

BTW, I tried to PM this message to you, but you've set your profile to not allow PM's. Wasn't sure if you were aware of this.

Hey Semprelk, thanks for the number. I called and the lady looked mine up and told me that my 2 weren't included in the recall.

Cliffs2 , no problem..had me a little concerned too but they were very prompt calling back. I am thinking it has to be limited just to Finnlights but those pictures are pretty scary.
