WOW. Now all you need is, perhaps, a scope.

<schapman43> |
I do have a few plans for it. I am going to do the following. 2.5# Trigger Job Badger Ordnance bottom metal Badger Ordnance Rings and Base (opted against leupold) the someday down the road I would like a McMillan stock buts that gonna be awhile. I will let you guys know how the stock gun shoots. Does anyone have any good loads for the Sierra 300mk? Here are a few pics [ 11-07-2002, 23:41: Message edited by: schapman43 ]

That is a thing of beauty. I have a 300 RUM in a 700 LSS. I don't think the kick is that bad until I get past 20 rounds at the range. So I been working on chest and shoulders at the gym a little harder than I used to. ![]() ![]()

quote:Have somebody go out on the roof with a cinder block and have them drop it on your shoulder a few times ![]() Seriously, it is going to have plenty of recoil. Might want to consider some reduced H4895 loads (go to www.hodgdon.com and see their "youth load" section), light bullets, and a PACT magnum recoil shield to start out with. There was a guy shooting 300 grain Sierras in a HEAVY, braked, 338 Lapua at the Iowa 1000 yard benchrest match in early October, and he said that recoil was still a problem with that rig. I really like the looks of it, and that 4.5-14 LR scope should top it off nicely. Keep us posted on the progress!, Bill

I am very interested in how that thing is going to shoot. I was looking up some ballistics for it and talk about the potential to shoot flat. Wow.

Great lookin rifle schapman, will really look sharp when you get that Badger rail. But may I suggest that you look at William's Firearms bottom metal before you go with the Badger, I have one on a Remington and it is a precise piece of craftsmanship. Also you may want to do the trigger job yourself, Sniper country has a all the info you need here.

By the way, does anyone know where to buy shells for less than $39.99 a box? These puppies cost more than 50 bmg!

Reload. | ||

Your Sendero should prove quite accurate! It's going to kick a whole lot more than my 7mm mag Sendero though... Reloading will let you shoot more on a budget, and let you work up the best load for your particular rifle. I'll bet that Sierra has some load tips avail from their tech guys. Regards & good luck! schapman - looks just like the one I own ![]() My load for the 300 MKHP is; Remington cases (prepped) 88.0 grains Reloader 25 Fed Gold Metal 215 primers OAL 3.775" (single round feed only) 2630 fps and .500" or better @ 100 yards With the Badger rings and bases I would consider the buying a Leupold 3.5x-10 LR M1 w/ a mil-dot reticle. The recoil is acceptable for a big game rifle. The problem that I have with mine, is that for precision shooting, the recoil starts getting excessive pretty quick. It takes a while to get used to it and about twenty rounds during a session is my limit. My rifle has been phenominally accurate and has never been finicky with any bullet/load combination that I have tried. I'm very happy with mine. Hope you enjoy your new toy ![]()

Would it be possible to add a couple of mercury tubes into the stock if he wanted to ?? Also I would like to know were one can get these PAST recoil pads that you were on your shoulder and how much they are worth ?? I suppose I will have to order it from the states as we will not get it down here in Oz.

<schapman43> |
I appreciate all the great comments. I cannot wait to get this rifle up and running. I'm thinkging about selling my PDA and buying all the mounting hardware ![]() Now if we could just get Remington to build a .50 BMG.

The Sendero isn't a light rifle to begin with, mercury reducers would make it very heavy.

Also mercury reducers can really screw around with the balance of the rifle, expecially a fiber stock. The only way to reduce recoil is to load low or attach a brake. Of course if you don't like going def that can be a bad choice, I guess a on/off brake would be kind of handy.
