My new DIL went deer hunting for the first time last fall and shot her first deer and loved it.

My son and her picked up a free market M77 stainless youth in 7mm-08 last night for her.

Now all I need to do is find some brass and dies to get her out shooting it.

She petite 5'3 a shade over 100lbs

I just might load some cast up to around 1200 for just a fun to shoot load to get her familiar with it.

I figure for a hunting load to start her with 139gr at around 2400fps. That well kill any deer she needs to shoot for a while until she gets use to it.

P dog, a friend of mine has been working on a load for his granddaughter to shoot in a Vanguard S2. I gave him some 120gr TSX bullets I had left over from an Encore I had sold. They shot great in that Vanguard and should be a good deer bullet.

Thats great news!
When my son was still growing we downloaded his .284 Win (old Ruger M77 Flat Bolt) with Speer 130 grain bullets at about 2400 fps. This load killed his first Mule Deer buck at 180 yards and his first Bull Elk under 100 yards.
This load was very shootable for a growing kid and killed very well.
Make shooting fun and she'll be hooked for life.

She is already hooked has her own 10-22 now center fire rifle.

Son has enough hand guns and shot guns for both to use.

She says she wants a 20 ga Beneli auto for doves and grouse that might have to wait they just brought a house and 25 acres.

You could try the 120 gr TTSX or even the 120 gr Nosler BT at say 2800 fps or more.

Good luck.

Yes they would work and I might but when has several hundred 139gr Hornadays on hand they seem the best choice.

For future reference....some real light kickers that kill deer very well:

Bullet - Nosler 120gr Ballistic Tip
Brass - Winchester, Remington, or Federal
Primer - CCI 200 or Federal 210
Powder - IMR 4198 (32.5 gr), AA3100 (46gr), Reloder 7 (30gr), IMR4759 (25gr), H4895 (35.6gr)

Use the IMR 4198 if you have it, add more powder if not at desired velocity,(you can safely go up to 37gr, or if too fast you can go as low as 25 gr.

This got me to thinking went down to the reloading room dug around and found two boxes of them.

Now all I need to do is find brass and dies. looking for once fired and used dies if any body has them.
