Power points will work very well on any deer size game. I use 308 150gr since I feel that 180 tend to drop pretty signifacantly beyond 150 yrds or so but my brother has shot many many deer with the 180's in 308 and uses nothing else. The 180's should be ideal for hogs.

I have used powerpoints in my 308 on red deer and they work really well - you will not be disappointed with their performance. Another good one is the Remington corelokts - also excellent on thin skinned animals.

Excellent expansion is the forte of the power points, they are among the best in that reguard.

I'll second Ricochet's opinion. I use them out of my 270 and 3006 for deer and hogs. One other good quality is their inherent accuracy. simply put, if your rifle doesn't shoot Power Points ( at least in the 270 & 3006) then you better fix it or sell it. They are my "benchmark" to test a rifle's accuracy. jorge

I'm going hunting for deer, but with the possibility of a relatively large hog. The 'hill country' deer here in Texas are pretty small. Does are under 100lbs bucks under 140lbs, dressed. I have had good luck w/150 PPs on deer and meat pigs(under 200lbs). The pigs are usally shot ear/eye shots feeding under 75yds or behind shoulder at under 150. My next hunt will be for larger hogs, up to whatever. Ive got some 180 PPs that I want to shoot, but wonder if they will expand on H/L shots on the deer. I'll be loading them about 25-2600fps in my 308. I could use my 30-06 with 168 CT BTs, but I'ld rather use the 308. I just wonder how thoes 180s will work on deer. thanks, capt david

Ought to work fine. That's exactly what they were designed for. They've been around for 40+ years and have brought down lots of game.

I consider the power point one of the best conventional bullets that I have ever used in the .308, I have shot a lot of game with them from Coues deer and Pronghorn antelope up to and including Elk, Kudu and one Eland, all with perfect results. It is "the" bullet for my .308 M-99F Savage as thats what that gun likes best, so I just shoot the Factory Win PP ammo in it..I reload for my custom mauser .308...A great bullet and it'll work for you. Mostly I have used the 180 gr. PP, but for Hill country deer the 150 will work fine...in fact about any bullet will work on them..I would worry more about meat distruction than anything else..I would use a 180 PP myself..
