Let me first state that I have, in the process of comming to me, a short montana rifleman action. This was before I realized something. Maybe I am missing something, but why would anyone purchase a barreled montana rifleman action when they could, for the same price, purchase a complete CZ model 3 rifle. You get the same action, the same barrel (apparently montana rifleman is supplying the barrel to CZ also). This is of course assuming that you are building a rifle in the same caliber as one offered by CZ. Like I said, I wish I had realized this before hand.

although they are the same action, CZ might be able to sell for cheaper because they have purchased thousands of those actions and got a price break. all things come cheaper when you buy in bulk.

The CZ versions I've seen also appear better finished compared to what I received. The cartridge offerings don't appeal to me though. If they did I'd certainly get the CZ. Sell the stock if you wish and you've just added to the savings. ______________________ Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

quote: That is correct, both action and barrel are from MRC. I can't really comment on whether the CZ versions are finished better than the regular M1999s. On my last trip to the MRC facility, the actions that went to CZ seemed to come from the same bunch as those destined to be sold under the MRC brand - apart from engravings, naturally. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... I just never saw this mentioned on this forum (the cost of going with the barreled action vs. the complete rifle), and I think it needed mentioning in case someone went through and searched. Because I did not mention it, I am atleast $300 to the poorer (could have sold the CZ stock for 75-100)

I was on another forum in the last week and someone claimed CZ has dropped the model 3 already! Anyone confirm/deny this?

Well, it is still on their website. I have an email into montana rifleman about this very question, so we will see what comes of it!

It should be pointed out that just because they come from the same plant, the two barrels are likely not the same quality. I can't imagine that the CZ factory barrels are hand-lapped, for example, as the custom barrels are. JMO, Dutch. Life's too short to hunt with an ugly dog.

I just heard back from montana rifleman (in a very nice email), and they basically said the raw action and barrel are the same, however, the barrel coming from them is hand lapped, while the CZ barrel does not have such attention to detail, and the action is not worked over as much by hand. In the end, I would rather buy an action from some guys in montana directly then via an import company. It should also be mentioned that this way, you can atleast choose your barrel profile and other details. I guess the difference is custom vs. factory rifle.

I liked the idea of the M99 action so much that I ordered two of them early on (when there wasn't a product yet). Now we have an excellent action at a relatively low price point. I like having the Chay Zed Model 3 too, although I have not bought one. It tells me something that CZ is buying actions and barrels from Montana Rifleman instead of developing the equivalent action in Eastern Europe. I am pleased to have both. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.
