Hi guys:

Long story short, I won a Savage 30-06 rifle at the local SCI banquet. So I decided to trade up to an TC Icon in the 30 TC caliber. The pictures of this rifle showed a beautiful walnut stock and the bolt and the scope mounting system interested me.

Well, I put my order in through my local gun dealer. He called me and said he just talked to two of the major distributors and two other gun shops ordered the TC Icon and they all sent them back. It seems the the beautiful walnut stock is now as ugly as a plain 2X4.

I heard that the original Icons might be a limited run, but TC is still advertising that beautiful walnut stock in all the magazines.

Not to many new rifles out there that blows my skirt up any more. Just changed my order to the Marlin XLR 336 in the new 308 Marlin caliber to play around with.

What are your thoughts on TC screwinag around like that? I wonder if S&W had anything to do with it.

Regards... Jim P.

A shop I stop in a lot got an Icon in a while back amd my opinion was that it was heavy and ugly.

The dealers opinion is they will probably have to bury him with it as he does not think it will sell.

Not sure why you would want a T/C Icon to begin with.

Hi MH:

Well I am a rifle looney. I love all kind of rifles, especially when one is sorta of unique.

And since this was TC's first stab at a bolt action rifle I figured what the hell.

But I can always give the Marlin 336 to one of the grandsons when they are ready...LOL

when tx brought out the rifle they said the first 1000 would have the good looking stocks, and then after that they would be plain. IMHO that is a great mistake

I like to try new designs also. But only if they are high quality. I bought an Icon and it is excellent. Quality of manufacture is better than any other production gun made in the us. I think it has some well thought out and functional design elements. Lets not poo poo everything just because it is new. I did shorten the barrel to 22" and re-crowned. It now shoots exactly the same groups as the test target that comes with every rifle. Test targets, another nice touch!

It is good to see an American company try there hand at something new.

Right now their product does not suit me personally but hopefully they will continue on and possibly refine it further until it does or maybe I am just too damn picky Wink

I was gunna consider one of these for my next rifle and when i went into my local the other day they had one there. So i had a little feel. Well i dont want one anymore!
The bolt felt realy rough. i didnt like the mag or the release as they felt like cheap ill thought toys.

Shame realy because they look realy good on paper.

I was pretty hot for one when T/C first announced them - seemed like a goood idea and intial retail pricing was excellent in the $600's but then the S&W merger happenned and they were delayed and when they did come out the price jumped terribly. I finally got to see one a month or so ago and was extremely disaapointed. Heavy, blocky, plain wood - jsut no appeal at all for the premium price. Many better choices in my opinion for similar dollars. T/C really turned me off with this - so much so that I have been selling off my Encore barrels and only keeping the muzzleloader.

the ones I saw at Cabela's and Boise Gun Company sported about a #3 grade creosoted fencepost for wood. As long as they want to compete with CZ for price point, they need to offer the same decent quality wood and fit and finish. If the rest are like these, one will NOT! be following me home anytime soon.

T/C had some left over stock blanks for Hawken rifles and that's what you saw on the first Icons. Yup, the wood was spectacular.

I picked up a .30TC a while back and I agree that the wood is not as fancy as the first ones but I figured what the heck, I've yet to kill a critter with my stock and likely won't. The Icon shoots like a dream, appears to be totally bomb proof and is a great bolt action in my opinion....just as the Encore is a great single shot. A great addition to the T/C line I say and a great addition to my gun safe.
