Looks like it will be a while before the range will be accessable. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~

lets see, in Pearland, it is in the mid 70s, 69% humidity, wisps of clouds, light winds. If all goes well I should be at the range at 7:30 in the AM. Best GWB

Looks like the 3 yd range is open. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Time to test penetration in snow. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Get Cal out there with one of his 4 bores. When the smoke clears, the range will be open for business.

Ordinarily I would recommend Black Canyon Range (Ben Avery, officially) this time of year, but yesterday the temp was cooler than forecast. Was predicted to be 90 F degrees, but only reached 87. Not a cloud in the sky, 45% humidity, and very gentle breezes. Needless to say the range WAS open.

This is the time of the year when winter has become beyond tiresome. I'm beyond the age where playing in the snow is fun anymore. Snow machines are fun but dangerous. So something to do outside occupies a lot of thought, and dreaming about what can be done down south. Alaska is fun in late spring, summer and early fall, but I would rather be somewhere else in winter. Living in Alaska must be like living in a refrigerator for most of the year. At least your free to move to a southern state.

I'm in one of those dilemmas that is not expected, or appreciated, until it happens. I came to Alaska for the adventure, and made a life here, and still love it. Making a life is also making a career, and locked in sorta with a retirement plan. Jumping ship too soon will be costly. I never thought I would look forward to retirement, but now I simply view it as a career change, and hopefully an opportunity to be down south somewhere as the snow flies up here. I still feel that I never want to retire, but I really would rather be somewhere snow doesn't accumulate in winter, and where I can be out in the woods doing something, even squirrel or rabbit hunting. There's always something to do, hogs all year, turkeys in spring, and somewhere the fish are biting. I don`t know about leaving but I am sure a couple of two week long vacations a year in the southern climate does a lot of good.

That probably sums up the problem. I usually take two weeks in January or Feb and go to Texas for some hog hunting, but didn't get away this year. I've got a bad case of cabin fever. It's prone to happen every year about this time to everyone in Alaska, hence we are grumpy. On second thought,I can`t stand the cold climate.I`ll be honest to myself and say that I wished I never lived in a country with a cold climate. That is also one of the reasons I enjoy hunting in Africa.
