Gentlemen - I am thinking of having a rifle build up on a Husqvarna Model 1640 action in the new 370 Sako Magnum round. Z-Hat Custom told me they are trying to get picture or dimensions for the cartridge. However, there is very little info out there yet on the cartridge. The little publicity available says that it is supposed to be the equivalent of the 9.3 x 66 or 9.3 x 70? designed for the American market. Midway USA lists two 286 grain Federal loadings that will be coming & Federal lists it on their web site so it must be getting close but none of the publications I can find has written anything on it yet. Looks like it has the potential to be a great no cartridge if it adds 100fps - 200fps to the already great 9.3 x 62. Anybody with info on this cartridge or a drawing of this cartridge?

The 370 Sako Magnum is, in fact, the American version of the 9.3x66 Sako. There are no differences dimensionally between the two and the only change made was the head-stamp. In speaking with Federal, it will be fully interchangeable with the original 9.3x66. You can use a 9.3 chamber reamer and reloading dies if you want to go the custom route. Beretta will begin importing the rifles (Sako 85) later this year. Federal plans to have the ammunition available by this summer as well. The only thing that might be a hang-up is that brass could be tough to find. According to Federal, they will not be making brass available to the public. If you need a case diagram, look at Z-Hat's site and navigate to the 9.3 Sako section they have on there. There should be a link for the CIP drawing. I think it's a cool idea - approaches 375 H&H performance, uses a standard action, and holds 5 down.

Why do they bother now when new 9,5 Ruger rifles and ammo are readily available. Best look at the price of ammo before you proceed. It's about $30 more than pack of .375 Ruger? Craaaaazy! Yep, it sounds like badass .358 Norma in the making, soon to go away.

Thanks pinotguy & Paolo9 - however, the silence out there is deafening and has brought me back down to earth and made me realize I am already happy with my 9.3 x 62. Now I'll go finish my .375 & .404 projects

What's there to say? It's a 30-06 necked up to a .366. Federal is selling the cartridges with a 286g bullet. The questions I have is: 1) what can this do that the 9.3x62 can't? 2) what this do that the 35 Whelen can't? I'm not knocking it and I'm certainly happy that there are more choices. In the end, they are 3 peas in a pod (9.3x62, 35 Whelen, 370 Sako). They're all fine. It's all good.

It's the 9.3x66 Sako just renamed. It's supposedly closer to the 9.3x64 Brenneke than the 9.3x62. What's it do that the x62 can't? Absolutely nothing, it just does it a little bit more. Just like the x64 Brenneke it's something a little different, so if you're willing to put up with rare brass, and expensive dies to be different, go for it.
