I picked up in a trade a Browning A Bolt 300 Winchester. I received no instruction booklet. Can anyone with a booklet or with first hand experience tell me a good starting point setting for 180 grain bullets. Thanks!

Try 0.0 and forget it. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

Terry, once again why would you say that about the BOSS adjustment? You've stated that about the BOSS before and I must think you either don't understand it or have never used it. I've had great results with the BOSS on my .338 Win Mag in M70 Super Grade. The gun has shot a 3 shot group with Federal 225 grain cheapo factory loads that measured .264" ! This gun since the BOSS was adjusted correctly always shoots well under an inch and often under .5", the biggest problem holding the gun back from shooting one hole groups is the nut behind the trigger ( ME ). Good luck with your BOSS LJS.

I think you can also order one of the CR (Conventional Recoil) ends for it so that it won't deafen you or your hunting buddies in the field more than any non-braked rifle....and still keep whatever "sweet spot" performance and point of aim you have worked out. Happy shooting, Dan

I have used the BOSS, plenty, and personally have found them to be usless. I've tried all the settings, and found there is no way anyone can predict what a factory 180 Power Point will do in relation to a Federal Premium. It is a 100% crap shoot. If it works for you, GREAT.I just crank them back to 0.0 and make believe I just have an overweight KDF on there. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

Terry Your results are mystifying to me. My brother has several rifles with the BOSS and I have one, all perform perfectly by the numbers for us. We start off with the recommended setting for that bullets weight then adjust up and down from there by testing each setting with a group until it produces the smallest group. You are the first person who I've encountered who has said otherwise. I don't think you understand it or are not patient enough to dial it in. I can tell by some of your statements that you don't believe it should work so you are damn sure to make sure that it doesn't work. Simply stated follow the directions and you'll see results, this is no "crap shoot". The only downside I've found is that I don't like muzzle brakes for hunting rifles so I put the CR on mine which eliminates the brake and now I'm very happy with it. Show me another .338 that is off the shelf aside from a trigger adjustment shooting factory loads that can put 3 shots at 100 yards in one hole, not many out there except with the BOSS that will do it. Plain and simple you don't have to like the BOSS but the results are too good to ignore.

snell storm the blaser r 93 are another that are quite capable of tiny groups right on of the box but are much more expensive than say you typical store bought rifle.
