I finally got a chance to check out the new SPS that Remington is producing. I can say that I was a little surprised. I had thought that the rifle would be quite cheap looking compared to the BDLs and ADLs but, that wasn't the case. To me, the rifle actually looked and felt better than the ADL and BDL. The stock seemed more rigid than the previous models stocks and they had the Limb Saver recoil pad installed from the factory. Another thing I liked was that the Magnum cals had a 26" barrel compared to the BDLs 24" Magnum barrel. The feel of the rifle was quite good for such a low priced rifle. The XCR looked quite similar to the Stainless SPS w/ the exceptions of the Bronze like tint of the new coating they have on the XCR and the grey inserts on the stock as opposed to the black inserts on the SPS. I have heard that the XCR is wearing and Overmolded Hogue stock but, I don't know that for fact. I guess my real question is How do these rifles shoot? Are they cheapening the quality of materials or are these new SPS rifles just as accurate and functional as the Previous ADL and BDL versions? The local shop has a Stainless SPS in 300 Win Mag w/ the 26" bbl for $475.00, that seems like a fair price. Thanks, Reloader

I think they are reasonably priced rifles and much better then the competition on a price point. I am glad they did away with the ISS and the blind magazine "feature". If anything its a cheap way to get a good donor action Working on my ISIS strategy....FORE

I'm anxious to hear the replies too. I handled one and was very impressed with the balance--it was one of those guns that "I thought" was lighter than it actually was. For me the big question is tikka t3 or rem sps. Tikkas sure have a good accuracy rep and are slightly lighter......hmmmm so little money.....so many desires!

Here's the SPS.....I wonder if the bolt handles stay on this model? /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." tnbrian98, If you can get a chance to stop by any of your shops that sell new Remigntons, ask them if they have the new 2005 Remington catalog. They have a close up picture of the stock in that catalog. If you contact Remington, they may send you a catalog in the mail. The stock on the new XCR is a Hogue Over Mold stock w/ rubber inserts on the grip and forearm. The SPS stock looks the same w/ the exception that the inserts are just hard plastic and they are black, the same color as the rest of the stock. The stocks on these looks like it is made more of a fiber material than the plastic looking stocks on previous models. It may be the same exact material but, it sure looks different. Reloader

I think its tough to beat a ruger in the looks and price dept. but I guess you hope it shoots. Seems like rifles have taken a huge jump in price the last couple years, Didn't the ADL's used to go for $389 last year?? in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

cummins cowboy, Yes, that's about what the ADLs were going for. There are still quite a few to be had for around 325-350 if you can find a place that has some left. I stopped by one of the local shops earlier this week and he had a pile of 30-06s and one or two 270s for $349. I also went by a pawn shop that had several used wood stocked 700s for around $250-$275. The new SPS is probably worth alittle more than the older adl. The new sps has a 24" bbl on the standard cals vs. the 22" that the adls had. it also has a better stock w/ a Sims pad installed from the factory. the bbl also doesn't have field sights so there's no need in hunting filler screws. I guess the extras should be worth the 10 more bucks they want for the new SPS. The blued/syn version are priced at 399 here locally, I haven't seen how much they are at Wal-mart. They also have the WSMs in the 24" bbl versions. Reloader
