Gonna be getting a 300win mag in Rem.Sendero shortly.Ive been studying the web and finding lots of load info and bullet suggestion. 180gr.Nosler Partition for sure come up quite often but Im curious to try out the new Interbond 180gr.Hornady. Intended use is for deer size game and range limited to 600yds. Any Good or Bad information on these from anyone who has actually given these a trial? Thanks

600 yards doesn't sound too limited in range. Even allowing that the bullet may still expand at that range (still going 1800+ fps?), there are huge uncertainties associated with wind and range estimation. A 25 yard error in range or 2 mph in wind will result in a very poor hit (I have never met anyone who could estimate wind with any degree of accuracy whatever).

I've shot Interbonds, Nosler Partitions, Trophy Bonded Bear Claws, -- wait a second let me go check my shelf -- North Fork Technologies, Accubonds, Scirroccos, and Sierra Match Kings in my 300 Win and did OK. Then I tried the Barnes Triple Shock and never looked back. Either the 200 grain flat base (BC .550) or the 180 grain boattail (BC .552) will shoot in .5" and have 100% weight retention. My records from June of last year say that the smallest group with Interbonds was 1 3/8". Need to get some Barnes CR-10 and keep your barrel clean though. Seat them about .05" off the lands, you'll love em! ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

DJ, does that Kestrel 4000 give you a time averaged value of the wind vector normal to the bullet path over the 600 yards? If not, then I submit that what it tells you is informative, but not informative enough to know the actual wind loading on the bullet downrange. Terrain plays a very large role in that and wind varies over a few hundred yards, just as it varies in time. Match shooters for long range shooting use flags all down the range. You won't have that kind of data in the field. At 300 yards wind is usually not that big a deal, but at 600 yards it is significant. I'll confess that I was once intrigued by the idea of playing sniper, but real snipers only reason for super long range shooting and the "one shot-one kill" mantra is driven by concern for their own escape. The direction of one shot can rarely be determined. No one cares if the target is maimed, killed outright or shot repeatedly. There is no ethical issue involved. The only thing in jeopardy is your hide and your personal record. Hunting has ethical concerns that are real and it is remarkably easy to stalk to within a reasonable range. Snipers shoot from long ranges to save their skin, not to risk a bad shot in order to test their skill.

I used 165gr Interbonds for deer and elk last year. They shoot nice 3/4" groups in my rifle with 79 grains of R-22. I think they worked very well. I shot my elk at 33 yards and got complete pentration and a 2" exit wound. I prefer the SST for deer. They open faster and deliver more energy to the target rather than shooting straight through. If your only shooting deer sized game you may want to consider the 7mm Mag. You get very similar performance at long ranges due to the higher BC of 7mm Bullets and a lot less recoil.

Ulfhere, You apparently missed my question ,which was an honest inquirey as to experience with interbond bullet performance.Im sure you are very experienced in the art of shooting and variables involved but that was not my question.I will not attempt to defend my concept that a deer sized target can quickly and humanely dispached at 600yd range mentioned and you need not have sniper qualifications to do so. To those who attempted to help answer my question.Thankyou.

I was trying them out with my 308Norma when the scope gave vertical groups. But the width of the group was not very impressive,it doubled at lest the group width of the Sierras when I tested the scope. My friend had the same compliant in his super accurate 308.Could be just our two lots. You can hunt longer with the wind at your back
