I have the 338 Rem Ultra Mag. and I can down load it or load it to the max. I have loaded the 250gr bullet and it is 34.47" low at 500 yds. Thats 3050fps. I don't know what I could hunt at that velocity. So I have some 250 gr bullets loaded at 2750 fps good bear load. I also have the 300 win. and 375 H&H and 416 Rem. But I would not sell one for another.

JRO45: The precision with which you quote that drop figure makes me think it is from a table and not shooting at the range. But if at the range, where do you go in MD to shoot that far? I live in AZ just so I can shoot at those kind of distances and farther, but if I ever had to move, would like to find a place I can shoot at long range.

AnotherAZWriter, I think jro45 is from Delaware; nevertheless, I felt I had to let you know that here in MD we normally do our waterfowling in the Chesapeake Bay with .300 and .338 Mags. We often have to shoot ducks at over 500 yds as they're flying over the water. My software program tells me a 210 Nosler Partition will drop 35" even at 500 yds sighted in at 3" high at 100 yds. I found this info, even though it's from a computer program, pretty useful in making long shots. We do have 500 yard ranges here, but they're hard to find. In the western counties, you might find a 500 yd hunting shot along a fire cut or power line. I can't recommend that you move here to shoot, though. We come up with the most bizarre anti-gun laws you could ever imagine. Take care, Steve

Ideal rifle battery: .22LR .270 .338WM .416 But at least in Alaska, you could get by with only one rifle, and that's the .338WM. The Alaskan is very popular up here.
