Stuck this info in a new thread.

You decide if the quality is good enough for you.

It's cast steel of some kind, no "made in...", needs slight wood work to fit and front post drilled larger. Box is 3.38" long, walls ~0.095" thick, Weight 10.1 OD/OEM M98 8.4 oz. Front post 0.531" OD/OEM M 98 ~0.515". Casting is accurate and overall well made but NOT CNC quality by any means, no flashing, one small dividing line behind front post, won't show. Hinge release needs stronger spring and a bit of work on the latching point of floor plate...plate releases too easy, might release under recoil as is. Won't get to install and check that for a week or two...to many projects in front.

I think it's worth the $77.90 and will order another for my other M98.

Good to know, it's certainly low budget option for a low budget build. Thanks...

There is enough room to put in a locking screw in the form of a knurled know ended screw or something more simple/fancy like a 90° turn locking latch. as seen on some mausers.

Got one of these yesterday from Numrich; I polished it up and it will work fine. The box walls are thicker than originals and the width outside is wider, so it is heavier.
Low budget build?!!! Hell, $78 for a TG is way more than I usually can afford.

Amen to that! Cost more than a couple of my complete Mauser rifles...

Although I get the point, they are not high quality. I put a lot of work into the one I have thin it out and polish it up.

At 1.12/1.00 CDN/US, 40 CDN = ~34.75 US...half what I paid...how about shipping and/or other charges?

$78 is chump change compared to the $4-600 on Midway...and gas was 10 cents a gallon in the old days...I remember, vaguely, mausers for 20 bucks...when's the last time you checked todays mauser(If you can find them)prices?

This is 2014 NOT 1914, we got to keep it real...those halcyon days of the cheap mauser build are LONG gone.

Have you looked at the prices for RAG/RUSTY/BEATUP trigger guards lately at Numerich and other places? I have and I think 78 bucks for a STEEL GUARD is good value for what I received. Even the PAWS Aluminum ones go for well over 80 bucks NOT including SH.

Doesn't mater what yesteryear's prices were...this is TODAY...I'm lucky to afford powder or bullets on alternate months.

No M98 build is inexpensive unless the individual has machining, welding, and at least a 'beyond beginner' set of gun smithing skills.

Some individuals fall into a complete -somewhat updated - '50s-'70s era commercial FN M98 based sporter hunting rifle ready to shoot for <$200. I've not seen a street price for <$650 that didn't require at least a trigger and safety update plus a decent set of bases and rings. If it's a milsurp based complete sporter rifle the street price runs all over the map based on 'the updates' many of which may need to be completely redone so overall costs go up as well.

If the individual isn't a M98 aficionado then they're far better off with a new SC Winchester M70 or Ruger M77 rifle without the build headaches and use the extra monies for hunting or use towards another purchase.

I have one more M98 build in me and it'll fit within a budget ceiling then I'm off to the 'new manufacture' world...

EXACTLY...every time I look at M98 prices I get sticker shock so bad I have to set down with 3 fingers and no ice.

I WAS going to do another M98 but not any more...$850 for a Ruger sounds mighty tempting and the additional cost of a different barrel/chamber is even below the cost of a W70 or a CZ.

Better get it done soon...the way things are going primers/powder/bullets may be things we talk about in the past tense. Frowner Mad

I've used a few of these. They are cast steel. All have polished up and blued well with good match to the other parts.

As mentioned, the spring needs to be changed out to a stiffer one. Removing the pin is a PITA. I had to drill both ends to drive them out.

The only other issue is that the slots for the follower spring in the floorplate are not cut properly. I cleaned them out with a dremel and cutoff wheel.

As stated, they are a good value and are servicable.

They hold 4 30-06's or 3 of the magnums.
