Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but can I restock my ADL with a BDL stock and maybe buy a floorplate....then have a BDL when I am all done?

Yes, you can. But, Why? Roll Eyes If you want to you can. If you do so, you will want to make sure the barreled action fits into the stock properly. You might even consider having it bedded. There are people out there that figure the ADL is capable of better accuracy because of the blind magazine, It is said that the blind magazine is more rigid thus increasing it's accuracy potential. The only draw back, if it's a draw back at all, is you don't have the convenience of dropping the shells out the bottom as you would with the BDL.. My personal preference would be to keep it an ADL and bed the action.

The reason is I have a pos remingon synthetic stock and I want to get a good stock for the gun anyways and either bed it or get one with an aluminum bedding block, so I figured I might consider changing things. One more question that I just thought of is that this ADL (270win) holds four in the magazine, my BDL in 338-06 holds five. Would I be able to get another round in the gun by changing to a BDL?

Personally, I have never been able to get more than 5 cartrdges in the mag. w/o having a feeding problem on and ADL OR BDL. The cartridges fit too tight in the magazine to be able to strip the first one off of the top into the chamber when closing the bolt. I have restocked Rem. 700's and I either go with syn. stk.s with the aluminimun reinforcement or I pillar bed the action. But, I always glass bed the action. In short, if you want to change to a BDL style stock, yes it can be done. The Bedding compound I use is Brownell's Steel Bed. It's tough and I never have had it crumble. If you don't know how to do it or are not comfortable doing it, I would suggest that you have a Smith do it for you, to save yourself time, money and more so grief.

One other thing, if you do the bedding yourself, Keep in Mind, A little bit goes a long ways. Nothing like having bedding compound oozing out everywhere.. It's a bitch to clean up and make it look professionaly done. If you don't glue the barreled action to the stock..

You'll need a magazine box as well

I don't want more than 5, but the ADL I have only holds 4 whereas my BDL holds five. My question is if I convert the ADL to a BDL will it be able to hold 5 instead of 4?

I can't give you an answer to that question.
But, I would have to ask you, is that 1 extra round really that important to you.....?

You need a new stock, bottom metal and mag box. I have an HS sporter stock I am looking to sell if you are interested. Never bedded. I had to open the lug area to use a Holland lug.

I have the same rifle. I only use 2 bullets when hunting. One in the chamber, and one in the mag for follow up shot. If I need more than that, then I have seriously f'ed up. Of course I carry a couple extra in my pocket.

One question I have is, how does your rifle shoot? Mine will consistently put 5 rounds in under a half inch. I was also wanting to put a new bdl stock on mine and bed it, but, I decided that it ain't broke, so I'm not going to fix it.

FiSTers... Running is useless.

The rifle I just had rebarrelled so I figured I should put a good stock on it. I haven't shot it enough to know exactly how well it will shoot, but fireforming loads (its a 270 AI)easily group well inside an inch (outside spread). Barrel is free floated with good clearance but it takes very little pressure to squeeze the stock against it because its such a flimsy stock.

As far as capacity is concerned I see no need for an extra round, I was just curious. I am interrested in why some hold 4 and some hold 5. The new models all seem to hold 4 (perhaps some unwritten industry standard?) and I would think they would make them hold 5 if it is just as easy. Anyways curiosity killed the cat I guess.

I did that very thing back in the early 70's but I can't for the life of me remember why. bewildered
