My 358 Norma would do the trick up here.

225 Barnes X for most everything with 280 Swifts for fall Brown Bears.

I tend to use more than enough gun

I shoot a couple of .358 STA's. In my opinion that chambering in your hands would make you capable of taking anything in the world. A 185 grain bullet up to a 310 grain bullet, at speed. You can load it like a .358 Win-35 Whelen or full blown. My PH in Africa was impressed with it and said he would be afraid of using it with proper bullets for anything. Good shooting.

It would be a rough call. If I were to decide on a 30 cal it would be either a 300 Win or 300 Wby. In 338 I would go with a 340 Wby. I don't actually need anything larger as I doubt I will ever go to Africa.

Thats a tough one! My first instinct would be my 300 Wby....but honestly, 1 rifle to cover it all I'd opt for a 9.3x62! Saw a gorgeos CZ550 with a 20" barrel and the full Manlicher stock the other day....I think that'll be on lay a way before too long Wink

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Yes, agreed. Nevertheless the .300 magnum would be better for danger bears or moose in bear country.

My 9.3X62 CZ550FZ. Taking practical considerations such as, ammunition availability and cost, into account; I would have to go with one of my six 30-06's.

What?.....Obama was elected?.....the only rifle needed would be for politicians and not for deer or moose.

For my hunting, deer to ocassional Moose, out to 300 yds, my .308 would do fine (just don't let my wife know). Great selection of bullets available for handloading or off the shelf factory loads plus low recoil.

If one can be calm and shoot, and is a good hunter, then I assure you that the 30-06 with 180 or 200gr. Noslers will get you by anywhere on this earth if you got a box of solids for Africa...

The .338 Win. might be a better bet but only if you can shoot it.

Gone that road - 8x68S looked perfect - lasted a couple of years and performed very well until 9,3x62 hit me - 8x68S stays at home lately.
