Well I picked up this freshy barreled AV action Sako from a fellow on Saturday & thought I'd post a picture or 2.

This rifle was supposed to be for my Dad, but now after getting it all back together & the barrel channel fitting properly, I am not so sure I want to give it to him anymore? Confused

Here are all the details:

Sako AV Magnum action
S/S Matte finish 7mm Rem Mag Sako profiled Ted Gaillard barrel finished @ 24 1/4" with recessed crown.
Sako Hunter Wood stock @ 13.5 LOP. I do have a McMillan in the closet I am considering putting on instead?
Trigger set to 3lbs.
After Market detachable 3+1 round magazine.
Leupold rings & mounts.
Leupold Vari-X III 3.5x10x40mm gloss duplex.

Reloading begins tomorrow. 140gr Nosler pills to start with.

This rifle came to me as a 22" 7mm when I got it. It shot fine but had a bulge in the barrel about half way down the pipe. Copper fouling was terrible, so I opted for one of Ted's fine replacements.

Range Report to follow.

Smiler

Nice gun, nice pictures.

I have never seen one of the detachable magazines before. Detachable because you have to remove rounds from gun when in your car??

Jason, that's a nice looking rig. Interestingly, I have owned 100s of Sakos and not one of them was a 7mm RM. I may snag a Fiberclass sometime in the not so distant future.

Dat likes the magazine setup. I am a floorplate guy myself.

That company who made the magazines is out of business. I don't even know what the name of the company was. I was lucky enough to find a couple though.

I bet you Jim Lutes knows who made those.
I understand what it is all about but I think it is ugly as stink...the detachable mag that is.

Yup. Me too. Dad likes a detachable magazine, the nice thing is that when I get it back I can put the floorplate back on.

Another oldie but a goodie!
L61 Sako, 7rem mag varmint,
it sure likes 65.5 gr of RL-19, fed 215m primers and 140 gr accubonds.

Works great on paper

works even better on hogs

That puppy should shoot !
I like the 7mm Mag and may well have one soon.
I have loaded for a few and had great luck with a 160 grain nosler accubond and RL-22.
acurate fast and deadly on deer and elk.

I would use Warne mounts. Much cleaner looking than the Leupolds, for one thing. I've had a great deal of success with them.

I'm a big fan of the L61 and have one I need to rebarrel shortly. Trying to decide on caliber now actually.

I'm a fan of the Talley mounts myself. I will change someday when I get some extra cash.
