I almost passed on the opportunity to buy this rifle. Thought of selling another rifle I had just bought to buy this one. However I looked through the safe and saw a few things I was willing to part with.

I've wanted this particular rifle for several years now, finally found a deal. Got this sweet little hunting rifle with a set of dies, Leupold M8 4X scope, and about 100 pieces of brass at a real bargain price. The price was less than the opening bid on most of these rifles on gunbroker.com.

I was surprised at the rifle when I got it. I sure didn't expect such a nice piece of walnut on it. The only problems that I have with it are the plastic thumb button on the safety and one flip up scope cap didn't survive the trip from Kodiak Alaska to Colorado Springs. Other than that this little rifle is in great shape and I might have to pick up some ammo to run through it this weekend.

Best thing about this rifle is that it is a .30-30!

Can't wait to run some pointy bullets through it! Just wish the magazine was a little longer. Sorry for the dark pictures I'll try to get some daylight pictures taken soon

Can't say thank you enough PWS!!!

Nice find! I would like to find a Rem.788 in 30/30 myself. I can remember when these little rifles could be had at gun shows for around $175.00 dollars. 99 persent of them will shoot there ass off.

Enjoy!

I never understood the 30-30 or the .44 in the Rem 788, but I am a fan of 788's. I had one in .243 that was a fine shooter.

Hey Taylorce1, That was a nice "Find" for you. I'm not normally a Blue & Wood fan, but that is a fine looker. Darn shame I didn't see it first. tu2

and I once purchased a 1917 Enfield .30-06 made by Winchester for $10.00....

That was then.....I only wish I'd bought the entire barrel of them.....but $10.00 was all I had then!

I have a little Savage 340 in 30-30 and it's a lot of fun to shoot. I haven't loaded any pointed bullets for it yet but it shoots the factory ammo just fine. Now it's not as nice as yours but I enjoy it. You will enjoy it.

Whish I could have shot it this weekend but had to help Dad at the ranch. Got the cows back from cornstalks Saturday, so we had to pair up 22 calves with their mothers. Takes awhile when you get 190 cows out of the trucks in less than 30 min. Then we had another 20 head decide to have calves by the next morning.

Would go shoot it today since it is a long weekend but with the wind blowing around 15 mph it isn't worth it. Guess I'll hit the bench and load up the 125 grain Sierra SP I got to try in it. There is always next weekend to try shooting this rifle.

I would defintely try some Hornady LeverEvolution in that rifle.

It shoots and kills great in my Heym O/U 30-30.

Just can't do that, I looked at it in the store. $40 a box just turned me off for a .30-30, even looked at the FTX bullets as there were some on the shelf. I just don't see where there is any advatage to using it either. Might try some on the Leverevoulution powder when it hits the shelf but until then I'll stick to IMR 3031.

Man, you are shopping in the wrong stores. Here's some. Heck, even locally the LeverRevolution stuff is under $20 a box. I'll be tryng some in my Model 54 soon.

Mike,

Typo on my part should have said $30 a box. Cheapest I've seen at Sportsmans Warehouse here in town is $28+tax. Wal-Mart doesn't carry it and the only other place I've seen it is Specialty Sports and they are a rip off on pretty much everything. Guess I could try Dick's or Sports Athority but they never have good selecions of ammo when I've been in there.

You have a little more competition up there where you are at anyway. Did find some regular Remington .30-30 for sale at $12 a box. Didn't buy any as I have plenty of reloads for my M94.

Would love to see that M54! The 54 has been a little out of my price range when I've found one. I've even seen one M70 chambered in .30-30 Win. Guy didn't know anything about it other than it was a first year M70 by serial number.
