A friend has a lease in southern TX. I don't know what town it is near, but I know it is pretty far down there. How are they to hunt/shoot? How would you load an 06 to kill them? Thanks | ||

Doublegun: I wasn't going to comment until I saw the postings regarding the .338 Mag. Think I'll now kick in my 2 cents or whatever it's worth. I see no reason for you not to use your .30-06 on deer and take a .338 should you go for elk. My sheep/caribou rifle is my .270 Win. and if moose, elk or large bears are on the list then it's the .338 Mag. For moose & elk, I use a 225 gr. Northfork with 70.5 grs. of Rldr-22. This gives me 2834 fps with the chrono located 15 feet from the muzzle. I sight in +3.0" at 100 yds. and impact is +1" at 200 and -6 1/2" at 300. These numbers are derived at by actual shooting BTW. My personal limit at shooting at game is about 350 yds and I'm confidant I could easily take a moose or elk at that range. I think you might want to look at this chambering. Good luck.
